It has to do with the electrochromatic innards failing. It isn't the glass it is the electrified filament. It is a far superior product now, but there is a very good reason you don't see it in auto's. It doesn't like being jostled around.

The twin disc clutches on the 599 and OTO are actually tougher than the single disc clutches that have been used on 12s for decades. The F430 went to one, too. They are smaller in diameter and have less rotational inertia, helping with the Superfast F1 software.
