https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.hamilton-or-schumacher-brawn-weighs-in-on-greatest-debate.6YX2DFGhzozkHhwCwvpMZs.html Interesting article, don't know if this has been posted yet. Here is Ross Brawn's perspective since he worked with both drivers
Yep Different era's, different rules, different cars. Technology has come a long way--> Michael gave more input into building a car. Today, the engineers know way more about the car than the driver so less input from Lewis because of the Mercedes camp. Question is, could Lewis do what Michael did back then??? Nonetheless, both GOAT drivers given the era they drove.
And could schu do what Hamilton does? The latter has all that data/info to manage? Interesting comparison and we will really never know. But love or dislike them; they are both in the history books.
Michael grew into F1 in the era where consuming all of the grip of a tire and changing it quickly became the game to win. Lewis grew into F1 in the era where preserving the tire so it last longer is how the game is won. These are simply different enough that it is unlikely that either would dominate the others era.
Good read, Brawn has said before both are great. The technology affects drivers of every era. Im sure Schumi had more data at his disposal than Lauda did, and so on. The new young guns who entered in this high downforce hybrid era (Leclerc, Norris) should'nt be looked at as less of a driver. Talent is born everyday
Brawn had good points. MS had to tell techs/mechanics what the car was doing, Hamilton is told what the car is doing by the techs/mechanics. Two totally different eras. Regardless, MS had the harder job and was the best at it!
Yes Schumi along with other divers had to relate to the mechanics more. Brawn states that Schumi was the best at it, i agree. Brawn states Hamilton "didn't need to". not that he couldn't if they needed him to. Hamilton's was successfull in his 2007, 08 car, I think those cars were closer to Schumacher's Ferrari, maybe they relied on Hamilton more for feedback in that time. Hamilton, Vettel, Kimi are the only old heads left to have carved thier way up in cars similar to Schumi's Ferrari
Mclaren was the 3rd best team before Hamilton came, but you are correct, as Brawn said, he didn't need to. My piont was when he entered F1 in 2007, the teams had less data than today, so they may have relied on driver input more.
Shumacher is undoubtably the best development driver of his era , took a dud and turned it into a winner
Excactly! Although i would'nt call the Bennetton or Ferrari a "dud", both were 3rd best teams and won races before Schumy came.
I don't believe Hamilton has tech savy. When the car isn't right he seems to stumble and ask general questions on the radio.
I remenber elton once said he was sorry Michael retired because he wanted to fight against him..then Michal came back and make him look like a tool at Monza, driving a slower mercedes compared to his Mclaren...and Elton started crying after the race, lololo LOLO, still funny to watch after all these years...
Great video! Hamilton passes Schumi at 5:00, Schumi's feelings must have got hurt because he drove recklessly the remainder of the race. Schumi totally out of line at 7:51 and parks the car in front of Ham at 8:50! And Hamilton still beat him that race
And this is how ****e F1 has become. I don't consider rows of laptops as "Sport" Also quite telling is when Rosberg borrowed Hamilton's engineers for one season. Rosberg won the WDC. How the **** can that be considered Sport ?
Yes he was, poor crapilton never stood a chance, funny because Button was able to pass Michael quite easily, wich is normal given the Mclaren was much faster, but poor Elton just got schooled by the master..Michael just made him look like a total tool.
yes, that is funny and funnier still is the fact that some elton lovers use that fact to justify the fact that Nico beat him, lolo, so this just means that Elton beat him the other tiomes because he had a best team!! I guess we can't argue wit eltonian's logic...cause they have none!!
He turned Ferrari into a winner and did the same with MB , a lot of MB success has to do with MS's development when he was there .
Rubbish !!! Teams bring out new cars every year, and the technical rules changed after Schumacher left. For a start, drivers don't develop cars, they simply give feedback; engineers develop cars. How a driver from previous years could develop a new car designed for new rules? A bit like saying Alonso developed the Ferrari Vettel is now driving !!
Agree, a driver alone can't develop a car. I think Brawn is saying- Schumacher was the best at relating how the car drove and making it drive better. I see that as true.
