That's actually the opposite of reality. A pedigree is today the only way to ensure you're not buying an inbred dog. My father was a breeder (Boxers) and I grew up on the dog show circuit. Our Kelpie came from the top Aussie breeder and she was and is militant about heridity. The "puppy farms" who breed for the pet shop and similar markets have no system to comply with and every incentive to in-breed. e.g. hip displacement was very rare in cattle dogs, until they became big sellers to the pet market.
I normally let silly comments go through to the keeper, but some times a nonsense statement breaches my IDGAF threshold.
+1 A friend lost his Labrador named Max a few weeks ago. He is still heartbroken over it. Max was more human than dog. He was definitely one of a kind and everyone who crossed paths with him fell in love with him also. Image Unavailable, Please Login

Some beg to differ: https://kb.rspca.org.au/knowledge-base/what-animal-welfare-problems-are-associated-with-pedigree-dog-breeding/ and you must have missed this: https://thebark.com/content/controversy-over-bbcs-purebred-dog-breeding-documentary
animal activists and the BBC? Next you'll be linking a 4 Corners doco, because we all know the left never lie. The express purpose of the pedigree system is to prevent inbreeding. Pedigrees are recorded by the Canine Council. When you buy a pedigree dog you can see at a glance the grand parents of your dog. The breeder will have the pedigrees of the parents, which will show you the great grandparents. The Canine Council can provide as many generations beyond that as you require. Not everyone cares enough to check, it's their right to be stupid and risk a lifetime of vet bills.
You didn’t read the articles -written by vets and then the clanger of the Kennel Club president defending mother-son matings! You should watch that BBC video it is horrifying. Maybe when you were in the show scene it was different but today... Anectdotally, I can’t think of a single pedigree dog I know who does not have at least 1 defect.
