Well done. The USB charger is the most important thing to have these days as phones only last a few houres with all apps running. I had done it myself in my last cars and I really apprechiate the little modification.
Nice work! Whats the info on the new deck? Modifications required for fitment? Where can I get those cupholders?!
Cup Holders I machined them with my CNC from a block of aluminum. (PM me) and yes they are also tapered to match the lines of the console. But please note it's a one way mod - I cut out part of the console where the cigarette lighter was - yes I know my car is now worth $10. if I'm lucky. Stereo https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33019287965.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.63274c4dUn6We6 Yes, it took alot of modding to fit ( seriously a lot ) Bacially take it apart, rotate the main PCB and Backpanel by 90deg so it's side exit, offset it so the wires clear the AC panel. Make relief in the heatsink backpanel for the gear-rod to clear it. refabricate the housing. add antenna under dash and feed to head unit. (could be in the back) Make an adaptor to use the existing Sony cable to boot to pass the audio output, reverse cam etc In boot add a 4ch time/freq correcting amp. remove all the old stuff. Job done ! I am asking the manufacturer for a spare top panel, so I can redo it in silver/grey to match better. - still in progress
Hi Ros, Yes, I am a purist, and in general dislike any mods, but this ranks high on my list. Below is my version in our 1995 456 GT, a 3.5mm stereo plug connected to a Sony XA-300 in the trunk and a USB charger. View attachment 2534738
could you post some more info on your new radio? still running the original unit in the trunk? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
RADIO The link is in the post above. The radio offers FM, SD, USB, BT4 and video inputs. Yes, would have been great to get one that could Spotify or stream radio or DAB in it self. But the BT4 is the next best solution. The reverse Cam function is also useful as we didn't want to have sensors all over the bumper. You can buy the Uni-Link sockets from eBay/Aliexpress I then soldered up adaptor cables. Front cable takes the 8 wires of audio output from Radio + the video input and Reverse signal. So that makes 11 wires. I found a Ign Switch Pos 1 power feed and used that to switch on the radio, and the main power from the cigarette lighter feed Rear Cable just the reverse, to the 4 channel amp and to the camera and reverse light via a T-loom cable I took a few connectors off the old wiring to integrate the new amp to drive the speakers. Removed the old radio, cd and amp. So now looks very empty in there. I'll take some more pics and post by the weekend.
Would you be willing to sell your original radio? I am missing the headunit from the trunk. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
