I recall watching that vid where the lady picked up the headers.... and said they will make them look good and be durable... perhaps something got lost in translation. could have been much worse.

I feel the cocktail of "ceramic coating" went horribly wrong, a complete accident of the coating company. The coating company is involved to investigate and resolve, no doubt. I'm betting Dan is made whole and everything is settled amicably in the end, what a crazy situation! Dan's answered several personal emails of mine, and been SUPER helpful. He comes across as very genuine and the classic enthusiast. As an enthusiast myself, having owned 30+ sports cars I know that kind of guy pretty well when I interact with one. I look forward to meeting Dan in my new F-car when the time is right, cheers everyone!

The “coating” was done by a local wheel refinishing company which sounds strange to me… They probably just powder coated the headers which would explain the fire. One can only assume they misunderstood him when he said he wanted ceramic coating they figured powder coating was the same thing, shrugs.

Not really sure why the shade-throwing... at least he’s honest, upfront and even basically did a YouTube PPI with his friend that’s a Ferrari specialist...

Bet many MANY of the cars owned by people on this forum have had MUCH worse happen to them that the current owners know nothing about.

Bang on the money at $92k. It seems like a great car at that price. I could have expected a few more thousand even in this market, but nonetheless, someone is going to get a great car.

I guess you could say that... The pluses are that you don't have any buyer/seller's fees selling it by running your own auction. The minuses are that you don't have proven auction techniques. I think this cost him a decent amount of money and benefited the new owner by many thousands of dollars. I don't want to get into details publicly here, but I work with auction houses all the time and this is not how to maximize the sale. That being said, Dan did say he wanted in the 90's so, he is happy with what he got for it so it did work for him. I think in the end the YouTube content is what he wanted and needed out of the car. The worst thing for him on his channel was when he bought the 458 over the 430. While I'll never do the things he did to his old 430, he did create a lot of content making mods and things I know he would never consider on his 458. I love his solution for creating DIY LED position indicators for example for something like $20.

Anyway... looking forward to watching more of his videos. Between Dan and Ratarossa, I get my Ferrari DIY bug met without too much real wrenching on my part.

    Dans a smart guy.

if people know deals can be had at ngsc auctions it may draw in more clicks... all part of growing the u tube empire.

I totally agree on your comment of the 458 vs 430 for his channel. I rapidly lost interest when the 458 turned up.

A ceramic coating does not have the thickness to display in the manner that the vid showed. It was something else, and powder coating seems plausible.
