Hi 812 owners/drivers...I have a gorgeous 2019 812SF and have noticed an annoying very high-pitched (like a mosquito buzzing in your ear) at about 4800-5000 rpm, lasts a second or so. It doesn’t happen all the time, and the car has to be warmed up (> 3 miles or so) before it occurs.
It sounds as though it is coming from above and behind the driver’s ear.
Given the heat issue I am wondering if some harmonic is being created in the exhaust system.
It was worse when still breaking in car, now with about 2000 miles it is less obvious, but still present. Maybe multiple heat-cycles are getting some metal connection to loosen up and thus improved somewhat?

Anyone else experience this, or heard about it?
    Many thanks!

My car has this problem too. Very difficult to judge where it is coming from or what is causing it. It is a loud buzz the triggers at certain rpm. If I hold at the rpm that triggers it, then the buzz can be constant. Slightly above or below that rpm and the buzz stops. So something is harmonising and making this buzz noise.

Car going for annual service on the 18th May (on assumption that London lockdown is lifted) and I have asked them to look at it. But if they have not already had several cases of this and know what to look at they will just poke around and not find anything I am sure. Anyway, if they find out what it is I will report back here.

    812 Superfast any problems ?

I had similar - dealer couldn't identify it (we can't replicate it legally on the public highway, blar blar) - i identified it in the end as a bit of plastic trim on the internal rear boot edge that had been broken during assembly (i assume) and vibrated at certain RPM frequencies. Fixed it with some tape, cured immediately, now no rattle.

That sounds EXACTLY like the noise I experience. It is not RPM dependent, but instead road condition dependent. It sound like it is coming from behind the passenger seat or in the boot area. I thought maybe the speaker itself was rattling/buzzing. Can you maybe attach a picture of the part you taped? I even tried fidgeting with the seat release handle to see if that might be it. In any case, the car is being picked up for its annual on May 15th and my dealer has assured me that they will resolve the issue. Glad you were able to get relief. I have not let this problem tarnish my ownership experience, but it is a little discouraging to spend nearly $500,000 and manage to have a persistent and distracting rattle.

i would, but the car is at it's storage site currently so i can't take a photograph of the fix for you. if you open the boot/trunk look up at the corner area where the truck lid meets the cars rear panel (when closed) and you will see a bit of plastic trim - mine had been snapped during assembly, so whilst it was attached to the trunk it was fractured and would rattle over 90mph/certain road surfaces/rpm's. i just taped it up and put some electrical tape between the plastic trim and trunk and this fixed the rattle completely, to such a degree i haven't even bothered to ask the dealer to order a new piece of trim. hope this helps

Mine is definitely rpm-dependent and very very high pitched, just like a mosquito, and only when car very warm.

Don't have this in the 812. Seems to be the most solid car I've ever driven. No rattles or vibrations. The Pista has one right behind the driver at 4000rpm. Will have to address it. Problem is when you go looking, you can crate new issues...

My 458 had a horrible creak in the passenger A pillar. The dealer applied an expanding foam which helped some, and then the diagnosis was the windshield seal was failing. Seemed to a relatively common issue. I don't miss that!

Mine too. When I find the rpm at which it buzzes, if I hold at that rpm the buzz remains. 100rpm up or down, the buzz stops. Go back to the target rpm, buzz comes back. Interestingly though, the trigger rpm changes over time. It was 3,900. Then a few weeks later just around 5,000. Then a bit higher. Now it is 4,500 rpm.

Did you ever figure out what was causing the sound behind the driver seat in your Pista?

No, not exactly. I solved the problem with a new exhaust[emoji23]. Don’t seem to notice anything now.
