Hi guys, So the shock absorbers on my 575 according to my mechanic are not at their best condition. I think to get my babe in -close to perfect-condition, that is the only big thing left (after finishing a big service for the car about 5 months ago). But I am not willing to replace them with new ones at the moment. Any CONS other than the ride being a little... "floppy" at the moment? Would it effect any other thing if I kept it that way for a while? THX,,,
575M shocks are pretty tough and only rarely cause problems. If you have an early 575M, it may be your shock absorber ECU that is the problem, Part Number 183960 was pretty flaccid without FHP.
There are various companies that can rebuild to as-new condition. Have a look for suspension specialists near you. Wont be cheap, but will be a darn sight less than new from Ferrari.
There are a couple of companies that claim they rebuild them, but so far nobody I have seen on here has had it done. They do Magnerides in eastern Europe, and owners here have used that service. Our Sachs shocks are very tough, but random failures do occur. Whole sets gone bad? Probably not.
THX @tazandjan @Auraraptor @brogenville for replying. However, I am looking 4 an answer to the couple of Qs at the end of my post please. THX again,,,
Doc I’m curious what year your car is and how many miles? It’s my understanding that some of the 575 shocks are no longer available new. Bill FL
Hey doc, You won’t do any damage to anything else by running slightly tired shocks. Depending on the type of driving you’re doing (i.e if you’re mostly just cruising about), you may never notice the difference. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
There’s a company in Holland I was in touch with last week about rebuilding the Ferrari/Sachs dampers. They confirmed that these are not intended to be rebuildable, but they have devised a way to do it, and offer it as a standard service. Think it was 675 (+ tax)euros per corner . No, it will not hurt anything and will not affect other systems. If you have an 02, though, I would definitely change out the shock absorber ECU before screwing with the shocks.
I usually enjoy reading UR posts Terry. IMO UR experience in the F world should be archived for learning purposes I would highly appreciate it if U can shed more light on the O2 and ECU thing, as I didn't get the full picture yet THX
MY 2002 575Ms, Shock Absorber ECU 183960 is not good. Recommend upgrading. Much cheaper than replacing or even rebuilding the shocks. All the details attached.
Doc, I find it difficult to believe that with your mileage your car could have multiple bad shocks. The exception might be that if your car was subjected to some kind of harsh use, which seems unlikely. One suggestion is to have your tech have a look at which shock ECU you have and go from there. I’d also consider seeking out a second professional opinion from a recommended tech familiar with 575’s. Bill FL
What about not using the car for a while (arround a year and half), would that be bad enough to get shocks in bad condition somehow?
We do not think there is anything wrong with your shocks as long as they are not leaking. Check the Shock Absorber ECU in the cheek panel on the passenger side and see what you have. Sitting around is rough on your tires, but should not affect the shocks.
