At this point I would support an alternative to F1 now more than ever. For entertainment I find myself looking to MotoGP although it isn’t 4 wheels.

Ferrari need to find a new Ross Brawn. The Italian management and their foibles will never allow success to flourish. Too much infighting, petty jealousies and myopic perspective on their own issues, and the methods and strategies of their competitors. Glad I prefer to follow a driver I like than a team. A WC is a looonnnnggg way off.
What gets me is that SF got hammered by an extreme technical ban of a season long scale. MB burning oil via piston slots and venting brake rotors via holes in motion happened gradually and maybe even delayed until after the season. no? The article above suggest other teams are dancing around the PU limits in other ways beyond the fuel pressure timing and oil "injection" system apparently on the SF car. I'd love to hear more about that. My supercharged Miata has 2 extra fuel injectors in the manifold ahead of the fuel rail for "ecool" with no intercooler after boost [evaporative]. But the fuel is still there and the ecu is tuned for it. I think this is how the oil injectors are working. As part of the air fuel mixture but OUTSIDE of fuel flow. And what about the plumes of oil smoke we see from the MB powered cars, Silver arrows included? No one has had a failure that I can recall this year [back markers maybe], but if an oil plume was innocent, don't you think it would result in damage or failure of some kind? I would love to see more of a description of the PU design issues that got banned and what methods are in play now. Also, the article claims that the only way SF could be caught was by someone spying, while at the same time keeping a secret settlement because the tech is proprietary, [yet still banned?] What the hell is going on?
FIA deal with Ferrari is not allowing any data to be shared. No highlight of what is actually going on with PU. I have no sympathy for Ferrari they agree'd to the deal. If they want my respect then they should explain. Both should explain. It was bad enough whatever it was that Ferrari agree not to talk. The episode pushed Mercedes further and we have them now more powerful. This was driven by Ferrari sheer speed last year. We have been denied basic information but we have no way to change this.
Enzo would not have agreed to the FIA engine freeze being extended for two seasons to Ferrari’s detriment. He would have pulled the team out until the new regs come in. To do so may have been “cutting of the nose to spite the face” but at least Liberty and the FIA would be having kittens as viewing figures and ad revenue slumped lower.
A few well timed phone calls from Ferrari to Liberty, quiet and firm would have probably changed this potentially. A serious threat should have been made I think. Nothing to lose.
It's maybe because Ferrari is working towards a come back in 2022 under new regulations that they have been so passive with the current engine freeze. What transpires from John Elkan's statement is the aim to be back at the front in future, and they are ready to sacrifice a couple of years to that effect. We don't know anything about the negotiations between the Scuderia and the FIA but it maybe that was part of the deal.
Technically, they HAVE to run the same chassis (design) and the same engine specification next year. This leaves little room for development. That is, you can manufacture a new chassis for next year, but its dimensions and attachment points have to be the same; you can manufacture new engines for next year, but all of the parts in the engine have the same dimensions, materials, weights, and machining.
Farcical really, no one is allowed to compete and attempt to catch up. no wonder the likes of myself are bored rigid with F!, not because the mercs are so dominant, more that all the other teams have had their legs broken and told to run the 100m sprint with Usain bolt.
motogp is always awesome racing. Finally we're seeing some different results this year as well! F1 is just awful.
I also watched the GTWC at Imola. That was really good too!!! Although the bloody BOP had Killed Ferrari there too. Lame.
Léo turrini in his last blog ( yesterday) gave some interesting informations : The new simulator will be ready by January and it will be a major tool The problem remains the qualified people. Ferrari needs to be attractive again in order to hire the best people around the world. Too much political pressure and instability for now. He has some doubts they are ready for that. Ferrari is very close to reach an agreement with indycar to build a complete car for competing in 2022 ( the car will be run by the Penske team I guess) Return to Le Mans is unlikely (sadly)
That would be a non starter under present regulations, of course. But with Roger Penske now owning Indycar, it's quite possible that the rules could be changed before 2022. I am wondering how that would be received by the independent team owners; it's like putting a cat among the pigeons !
it would be a massive plus for their marketing either. and a big threat to formula one for the long term
It will be interesting to see what comes out of these rumours. Don't forget we already visited this back in the 80s (I think) when Ferrari even built a car

Yes, that was well way back. A spoke wheel failed on that car during the race. I have no idea if Ascari was doing well before that.
The independent teams have to buy new chassis, motors, and aero packages each year anyway. Giving a few of them a choice is likely to spice up the series.
