So I dont want something super lightweight but I dont want OEM weight too, suggestions please ?
Here's my research/choice. I have a Spider and it works the hood fine with the engine off. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think I am going to try the Odyssey PC925, I have an interstate now and it seems to take forever to charge.
I just had an Optima red top warranty replaced. Guy at the store said their quality has come down recently. He's seen a lot of them come back.
Actually, the red top has sucked for about 8 or 10 years now...unfortunate because they used to be really good, back in the early 2000s. 430 Scuderia in North America came with the Optima red top as oem, and unless you modify the brackets, it is all that will fit. Yellow top gets good reviews on Consumer Reports, but they don't make it in a Group 34R.
In fact I have bought 2 of these now, its also resolved my F430 Spider periodically starting on 4 cylinders and the suspension sensorissues. Moral of the story, electrical warning light issues for EDIFF and suspension sensors, buy a Bosch S5, they are only $170 online in CH too
Should we be using a wet cell battery for our cars? http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/360-430-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/318758-f430-battery-replacement.html
Wet is fine - the issue in the linked thread was the vent pipe was not connected. The S5 comes with a vent hole on each side. The stock vent pipe attaches to one and the other is blocked off with a little blanking plug that comes as part of the battery - it is inserted into the top. Some cars may need an adapter like Battery Vent Tube / Breather Pipe / Breathing Pipe - Pipe Length approx. 260mm | eBay depending on what battery was fitted last.
There are no acids in the car if installed with a vent. The F430 comes with a wet battery as standard btw.
North American 430 Scuderias came with a Optima Red Top AGM as the oem factory battery. The brackets are actually custom fit for the Optima so it is a pain to try to fit anything else.
Just make sure before you change the battery that you turn off the circuit breaker in the front trunk. The metal frame around the +/- battery terminals on a F430 is not ideal. 2 years ago whilst changing the battery and holding a torch in my mouth I somehow managed to create a circuit between the battery terminals and the torch. I burned the skin off the roof of my mouth with the end of the torch
I tried the MZT 34R and its too deep for the battery pan. We know its too tall but the MTZ looks to be too deep. The pan has cylinders and spikes which look to shaped to the redtop optima 34R.
If it were my car, I’d convert the battery pan to a standard 430 and use either a good AGM or Antigravity lithium ion in H6 size. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
Solution is to purchase a regular F430 battery tray...then you can fit something other than the Optima red top 34R
Ok so I have a trickle charger which is used when my F430 is not in regular use (which it always is in the summer), except when my car goes to the Ferrari dealer and there is a wait for parts or space in the workshop and dealer doesnt use a charger. The Bosch S5 has been my preferred battery but it seems as though a 3 week non driven / non charged break is just too much for it and its then permanently wasted. So after buying 2 S5's in the last 2 years it was time for a change to for the same price you can buy the higher amp Varta E44 Silver Dynamic 577 400 078 Autobatterie 77Ah which is the OEM size 278x175x190mm
