$200 to repair light damage and repaint. $400 if we need to start with bare metal and have them coated in Dow7. That price is for each wheel.
Pretty reasonable... I just trashed a wheel on a BMW 3 series, a pretty cheap car. 280$ for a refurb with core trade in... 200$ to 400$ for a mag wheel seems reasonable...
I think that's an awesome price for what they are doing. Anybody gues what shipping is per wheel return to California
Nice work! A question for you. Given that magnesium wheels are soft, as is new paint. How do you go about mounting tires on a re-finished wheel without scuffing up the beautiful paint work?
Absolutely beautiful work on all the projects ou all work on. This was a great before, during, and after. Robb
I'm guessing they mount the tires from the inside of the wheel (face down on the machine). That's what my local shop does.
There are tire mounting machines that do not touch the outer rim so as to protect the finish, Most tire shops do not have those type of tire machines.
Just had new tires mounted on the 355 wheels I bought for my 348 yesterday and the front face came out fine (they put those down on the machine) but the rear lip was really scratched on each one of them.
Just being curious here. Considering the condition of these rims, is there not a safety standard in which one needs to worry about ? Knowing that these rims are a softer metal, seeing the damage, how well would the integrity of the metal hold if they were used at a race track , for track events ? I love the job done on them, they look awesome, just wondering if the rim(s) itself has the same strength after such a procedure?
Could you please tell more about the different processes to remove the paint? I need to get my wheels done the proper way this winter but it seems there is not much knowledge around in the workshops about how it's done right due to this special kind of magnesium wheels. Any advice would be verry welcome. Thanks alot
My advice to you is send them to Bradan and have them refinish your wheels. I sent mine there last winter and had them refinished and new tires installed. The work they did was professional and with the proper products.
I would be interested to hear what is the best process. I think mechanical sanding would have a high possibility of softening lines/introducing waves. Chemical removal would alleviate that concern but can you rinse it away/neutralize it without having an affect on primer adherence? Maybe soda blasting could be good.
Wheel Werks in Salt Lake City is excellent. Do exotic wheels in the SLC, Las Vegas, Denver, Boise area. Refinished my 355 wheels several years ago. Flawless. Reasonable price. Honest. Used them for years. Ask for owner Mike Prues or right hand man Ray.
there have to be options here in germany. i just have to find an shop who has done some 355 wheels before. The main problem is to get qualified informations about the right process to remove the paint, without damaging the wheel.....
