Hi F.Chaters, I own my 2012FF for +-1 year, it is 44000km/27300 miles and I plan to keep it. In despite a few dash messages as 4wd system/manettino failure etc... which disapeared at a second engine start it runs flawless, no leaks, no issues. I swapped the oem battery for a Varta recently, no messages since. The car runs the nice week ends only, did 3000 km/1900miles since bought it. Time for annual service has come and reading the PTU failure thread 2 options came to my mind: - I get the car to local Ferrari for a service, do not sign any new Power Warranty and run it until anything happens. - as based in Europe I get the car to UK and make a PTU preventive repair/upgrade, annual service included. My experience learned me do not open until it works but the "ultimate" PTU issue with the damages which travel to the engine and grenade it scares me a bit. What do you think guys? Thank you, P.
Grenade seems to come as oil /gearbox oil contamination. oil test kits about £40 in the UK. They look for several things but you could highlight this and send off a bit whenever you feel uneasy. There seem to be 3 schools of thought (closely related) on the PTU fix to make bulletproof. A furlong / GTE in the USA and new one that does the gear forks (Ernie? Ss engineering?). The fix seems good but not time tested yet and may mature into something slightly different or harmonised. Tbf, having an £8K car in / out option for PTU adds serious value (or removes a value crusher) for FF. ff engine 28k on eBay right now. Not so bad as in not Aventador levels.
im gonna go ahead and do my 3rd gear sensor and PTU as im around 34,000 miles and might as well do it now as im keeping it forever. will use GTE as im close by them
Hi FChat'ers I'm potentially in the market for an FF soon, too. Who are GTE, or what is the recommended shop to get preventative PTU work done? (Or after issues are found) (Im in SoCal if that matters)
ask your independant how much time they charge to replace 3rd gear sensor and ptu. 3rd gear sensor is a few hundred bucks and PTU from GTE is approx 7,300 i believe http://www.gte-engineering.com/
Hi, Im just wondering that what you did finally? Wait and see or open and start to prevent? Mine has 56 thousand kilometers ( of which 20k during the last 18 months in our ownership) and no issues at all ! Without Covid we would be closer to 70k kms...... Thank you Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
Arf! I still not did the annual service! But with the lockdown and bad weather the car is now 44200km instead of 44000... I'm pretty confident with this FF so I believe I will service it at the closest Ferrari dealer (Le Mans) and won't take the Warranty. Now if they offer me 2 years for the 1 year cost maybe I will... (I heard they offer that sometimes).
I service the car at the local F dealer. Until now 6 visits: - factory licence plate holder installation - 2 yearly services incl belt exchange - rear suspensions replacement ( starting oil leakage but i didnt want to wait and risk failure) - cruise control installation - door handle adjustment. Good quality work and reasonable price (similar to Bentley) and not much more than at the Porsche dealer. Other works (specialist shops or myself): - new Varta battery installation - battery charger connection creation - new set of Michelins - elliminating all sticky interior parts / some leather gluing, fixing with help of our Porsche dealer - Osram xenon bulbs replacement - Kenwood audio headunit replacement - passenger mirror replacement (sunvisor) - exhaust end replacement to factory sport sets - alloy wheels slight repaints - transparent car wrapping / uv ray protection of windows i consulted with the local dealer and finally decided not to buy the extra guarantee. I keep the car always on the charger and did not have any electronic failures or error messages. The only odd things is that sometimes the seat heating decides to turn on without being asked..... I am convinced that it has to be used, min 500-1000 kilometers per month.
Ok great listing! I did several things by myself on it as well: body height, spacers, alignement, windows seals, battery... My FF runs 50 km at least 1 time per month, but no more since Covid. My DD is a recent white lorry (by choice, I love being stealth everyday) and I have several WE cars, that not helps. And yes the dash sometimes says my seat heating is in "position 1"! A Porsche does not "perform" thoses gremlins but my plans to complete the stable are more to a F12 or 488 vs another Porsche...
I get ventilation 1 basically all the time can't turn it off. So when I call for heat am I getting both ventilation and heat at the same time?
I get the ventilation 1 most of the time when my battery is a bit low, sometimes heating 1, and a few occasions when the radio starts with bad sound (it is just static instead of what ever I like to listen to). Completely random, nothing to think about, just live with it kind of.
I think your right, only when I actually turn the dial for ventilation it flows air, I'm going to check more closely next time,
agree. mine is used everyday and in between sits on battery charger. I think its a software issue and Ferrari should solve it withour any parts replacement. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
