Why not try to find a 328 crank? It's the 'Poor Man's Stroker' crank, and all that it would cost you would be the crank itself since you are ordering new pistons anyway.
Finished measuring all the cylinder liners today, all within spec for I.D., and ovality, whew! Will need to order an aluminum oxide hone from Goodson. Back to scraping gaskets, boy does that suck, can't wait for reassembly! Testa Jeff
ECU is MegaSquirt is MS3/EX, see original post, ECU, and Jenvey ITB's. I am having an issue finding hi comp pistons/liners, may just stuff the originals in with new rings. Jeff
So Holidays almost over, so here is an update. Ordered JE pistons, 10:1, no delivery date yet. New steel liners from Superperformance, should be here next week. Complete engine/head gasket kit, next week delivery. Destra head cleaning is complete prior to delivery to machine shop for a .003 skim. Valve guides well within spec, no issues will leave in place. Valves also in spec, will be soda blasting next week. When head is done will lap valves. Need to check springs also. Sinestra head is still being cleaned, I freaking hate scraping gaskets!!!! Block had it's first cleaning the other day, can't figure out how to get the cam drive inner bearings out. Thats it for now. So the heads are at the machine shop, light skim, clean, should be done next week. Started cleaning the crank, just needs a good clean and polish the journals, looks very good, no burns, nicks, etc. Got another delivery from Superperformance, all bearings, gaskets, etc in hand. omg,, it’s a coupe. ,, bravo,,! ,, coupes are a better drive,, and better then a Ferrari 308 model. keep going. ,, and, JE pistons are bullet proof. I( ask me how I know. ) and,, liners ,, ??? well they deform under torque. ( a F1 motor problem. ) so,, bore and ,, gone under torque. I have a torque plate. Valves cleaned up, finally! I use a 12 step process with my lathe. 80 grit, thru 2000, followed by metal polish, takes about 1/2 hour per valve, 32 valves, do the math! Those two on the left fail for TIR, spec is .040 mm, they are about.080 mm, got slightly bent somewhere along the line. Next is lapping the valves to the seats, or maybe a beer or two. Look what I fished out of the Destra head water jacket!!!! I could hear something rattling around in there as I was getting ready to lap the valves. Took two days to find it and fish it out. So, Mr. Destra, and Mr. Sinestra cylinder heads are rebuilt. Starting to assemble the valve train for Mr. Sinestra. Spent the day UltraSonic cleaning the shims, buckets, and cam caps. So, Mr. Sinestras valve train is all installed! Small to do list once the head is installed on the block. Mr. Destra is next. Just want to share how much time this **** takes, probably 4-5 hrs./day, 5/6 days a week to get to this point. Don't attempt this if you have a day job, it will never get done. Well, it would seem I made TWO mistakes recently! While cleaning up my bench after installing the valves in Mr. Sinestra, and Mr.Destra I found a valve stem seal, and a valve stem seal compression spring. Hmmm, not good, so I inspected both heads with a borescope to verify all seals were present, and they were. Good, I didn't forget to put one, just didn't count all the seals before I started. Now for the difficult part, had to verify each seal had it's compression spring. After many tedious hours with the borescope, I thought I found a seal without a spring. So popped out the suspect spring assembly, and sure enough, no spring. I must have installed the seal without the spring, stupid. Lesson learned, lest beer, more attention to detail. So, heads are done, moving on to the block. Have new pistons, and cylinder liners, which need to be fit to the block. So made a fixture on the lathe to support the liners so I can turn them down to hand fit to the block. Liners are held in the lathe chuck, and supported on the other end by a live center, can take them down in increments of .0005" fingers crossed, and no beer until finished.
