Hey guys. £150k budget. 2017 488 with 9500 miles 2012 with 4000 miles Which is the safer bet for a first time none millionaire F buyer? In terms of things going wrong. I can comfortably afford both. But don’t have money to just burn Is age or low miles better in terms of issues and resale? my heart says 2012 low miles 458. My head thinks get the newer car. But I’d like some of your expert help. Currently have a brand new low mileage 620bhp C63s. Previous was an m4. Want to step it up to something exotic now. Just looking for help.
My preference would be a 488 per 458. Yeah the 458 sounds better but I much prefer the improved power of the 488.
488 is the newer car. Both are reliable, but the overall quality seems better to me in the 488. I don't like old low mileage cars. Cars needs to be driven to work well. 4000 miles in 9 years is not much. As far as driving goes, the 488 is the better driving and performing car. Some live and die by the 458 sound, but as drivers cars, the 488 is the better car I think. The 458 feels its age, that's just how it is. Sent from my SM-G930F using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Catching the factory warranty and service plan with the 488, if thats a consideration for you. 9yrs old with only 4k has just sat around, I would rather have a car that has been lightly driven. The 488, with an average of 2.5k/year is just that. Also, how many owners?
Hey guys The 458 is 1 owner with full Ferrari service, 3800 miles (400 done in the last 3 years) and has a 2 year Ferrari warnaty pack on it. If there was going to be any 458, that's the one haha, I need to try them both I think. Thanks
488 under your circumstances wins my vote. BTW I had a C63S as a daily driver with Dinan tune. Great car.
How does a 488 comapred to the C632? Wanting something to really make me smile. M4 to C63 was no diff other than better interior.
Sounds like we have similar trajectories on having horsepower wars within our own garages! I've done the 348->355->360->488 and C55->C63->E63S->GTS->E63S battle. IMHO, the E63S is almost as quick as the 488 (up to ~100, then the 488 wins out). Interested as well in your thoughts on C63S vs 488 (and what's next for you)?
That 458 is definitely not "the one". 400 miles in three years and 3800 total? No telling what's lurking, warranty or no warranty. Something else to consider is the interior. The age of that 458 starts to get into the age of sticky buttons, leather shrinkage etc. Doubt very much a car with those miles in that time has gotten good leather care etc. What about tyres? How old are those? When the car has been sitting like that, the tyres are shot after two years. Look, if what you want is really a 458, fine. Find a better one then. But I don't think you will find many here who will tell you that specific car is the car to get.
For me personally I value a drive in the twisties more than power and in my garage for that purpose it’s 355>tr>FF>sc63coupe for highway the order would be reversed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It doesn't. The 488 is a canyon carver on a level the Merc can only dream of. Some might say it's not in the same league, but it's not even the same game.
I can only speak to my previous Scuderia and current Pista. 488 and C63s are two different cars....63s more focused as a grocery getter on steroids; 488 will feel lighter and more pegged to the road. You will be happy with both although the 488 will be more engaging..
I'm a purist and put my money down on a pristine '14 458 Italia, w/ 4k on the clock last March. The 488 values are going down, whereas the 458s are holding strong and appreciating. Before you know it, the lust for the last NA V8 Ferrari will hit a fever pitch and continue. However, to each his own and both cars are amazing.
I have no idea which will hold value better value. Both will do better than your C63 (as a percentage). The newer car will generally have fewer maintenance issues. Fewer heat cycles on the soon to be sticky buttons. Fewer heat cycles on the glue holding the roof up, etc. Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Maybe it’s smart to get the cheaper f458 first. Enjoy the last N/A and then if I want to I can look t get a 488/f8/superfast later down the line. Il have to find a dealer who has both and see. With 10% down I am looking at £1650 per month on an £168k 488 and £1300 on the 458 worth £140k
Also factor in the availability and value of warranty—dealer offered (458) vs factory (488) and remainder of the 7 year service plan(488). Both of these cars are ‘drivers ‘ cars unless you are hoping to set lap records, in which case you need a different and highly modified car. Obviously the 458 was the greater leap forward in the mid rear V8 series compared to the 488. And of the course, Ferrari pushes the envelope of performance with each new car. (The F8 is latest in this series amd is predictably faster and better than the 488, except for the horrible sound due to the GPF.) in the end, spend some time exploring the cars. Sit inside. Drive them. Pick the one that makes you feel more alive and excited. If neither car ticks that box, keep looking
I am so confused by Ferrari Uk prices 2018 488 4500 miles £172k 2018 488 4700 miles £177k 2017 488 2100 miles £161k 2017 488 2300 miles £162k All red with Creme and similar spec. One of the 2017s is ever 1 owner. Would you get the 2018 with more miles (higher resale??) or 2017 with 50% less miles and £15k off? I know what my head says. Sure 1 year newer, but 50% more miles. Only other thing I can think is you get 1 of your 4 year showroom warranty + the 2 Ferrari give you. But that can’t add up to 15k. Basically the 2017 one means you get 50% less miles and your deposit paid for. No brainer.
There In your list there is a 2018 at 172K, so that's only 11K more than the cheapest 2017. 4500 miles is still low miles for 3-4 years, there is no real advantage having only 2100 miles. For the price difference you get one more year of the 7-year maintenance and one year less depreciation - appreciation on these two also depends on how long you plan to keep the car.
