I going to get dinner at a diner. I'll be near there at dinner time. I've been going there since the early 1980's. Used to meet my grand parents, aunt, uncle and cousins there on weekends for dinner. Its nostalgic. Not sure what I'm having.

Drawback the area is very bad now. A homeless tent city is nearby, lots of druggies around.

Traditionally it's a choux pastry with praline cream. This one had hazelnut, gianduja chocolate, and caramelized banana.

Wife bought this for me as it claimed to be supremely spicy. Official verdict - zippy, at best, even with jalapeño crudites.

Inspired by an earlier post, I tried Chef John's charred broccoli with baked tofu instead of beef. Happily, the broccoli was not as charred as it appears in my bad iPhone pic. Didn't have oyster sauce, so I used fish sauce. Tomato sauce instead of ketchup, because I hate ketchup!

    Very tasty.

    Just love the stuff.

We've made it both with real brown sugar and this batch with the fake brown sugar and it tasted pretty darned good. My wife also used the fake stuff on her last batch of bbq sauce.

For this go round we skipped the crispy fried pancetta for the sandwich though. Calls for a slice and really makes the sandwich, but just too salty.

Did a Phillie cheese steak sandwich. Pretty good eats. Temp fell down to 25f, so not the usual druggies on the streets. Its usually a show. Was going to take something out of the freezer this morning, but haven't had a chance. Get possession of my new place Feb 15th. So I want to cook the turkey, but that will be tomorrow. Have a rack of ribs in there, so will make those Thursday.

Tonight I think I'll keep it simple and get a Deluxe bacon cheeseburger at Wendy's or get a cheeseburger at Triple O's.

Did the Deluxe bacon cheeseburger at Wendy's. Five piece chicken nuggets instead of fries. I'm still hungry though.

Got a turkey in the oven. Going to make enchiladas out of it. I like turkey over chicken. Its snowing here, so don't want to leave the house.

Chuck steaks. These are from corn fed beef from Nebraska that we found at a small butcher. Chuck steak is an underrated cut IMO. Since it was a tad nippy out, I did them stove top in a butter/oil mixture in my carbon steel pan. 3.5 min per side. Served with white rice as a side.
