Would someone be able to confirm how high the oil pickup sits from the bottom of the sump please? Glass 308gtb. See photo. Mine is almost flush with the bottom of the casting. That doesn't appear to leave much space to the bottom of the sump to me.

It's not a lot, but it's more than if you just place a straightedge on the mounting surface of the pan on the engine side as the inside of the pan (where the pickup end is located) is not coplanar with that surface nor flat -- see the figures on pages B2 and B10 in the 308GT4 WSM. You can scale the B2 drawing (knowing the stroke) for the distance from the pan mounting surface to the pickup cup, but, just eyeballing it, it seems maybe just a ~few mm (whereas, the distance from the pickup cup to the inside of the pan is more):

I'm getting some oil surge, despite having Murray's baffle fitted (see photo)

The standard baffle flap things....does anyone know if the touch the pick up when they open or can they open potentially all the way to vertical uninterrupted? Hope that makes sense. Looks close to me.

There's a video on YouTube from Barkaways (a UK Ferrari specialist) showing step-by-step rest of their own 308, I recall there's a piece where they show the flaps in operation on a disassembled engine which may be helpful? I recall they do go pretty horizontal.

Not sure if this is the exact episode you want but if you scroll through a few I'm sure you'll find it, they're short and quite interesting

He didn't move the flaps with the pick up in place so I'm still unsure if they interfere. It's very close though, that's for sure.

    The outcome.

My mechanic used a sump gasket 1mm thicker than standard to ensure there was no oil leak. This has the effect, obviously, of lowering the surge prevention doors (whatever they're called) by 1mm which was enough for them to foul on the pickup.

Problem solved. Thanks everyone for your help.
