100's of 250GTE's, PF Coupes and 330GT's were cut up to make TR, SWB and Cal Spyder replicas. It's still happening and will only stop when the cost of a scratch built new car (like the GTO Engineering SWB) is the same as using a real car. I applaud GTO for investing in the tooling and jigs for this, every car they build is one less GTE scrapped.

Here is a lovely looking PF for sale ATM.
    https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1959-ferrari-250-gt-pininfarina-manual/OAG-AD-19700416/?Cr=0

The sad part is that there are getting fewer and fewer of the original cars left and the cars being replicated as road cars are in the vein of 'Is that a real one'

    Much the same as 365GTB 4's,AC Cobra's,Ford Escorts,Cooper s's etc etc.

The beautiful subtle lines of the original Pinin cars are going to be lost and we're going to be left with 'Is that a real one' until all the folk who knew of the original are all dead and buried and the families of the fakes can pass 'em off as whatever they want to.....until chassis time check!

    Sorry for the rant! :(

I don't have an issue with the Cobra's as there not being chopped up, if you have ever driven a Kirkham there right on the money of a 60s Cobra in driving ,I'd have a Kirkham in a flash as a rally car for GADs and GGs ..

Personally, I don't see it as negatively as you guys, if someone had/has the money to buy an old GTE, PF or 330 that has not been so loved & they wish to make a recreation from same, then IMO its their prerogative, I suspect it will happen less & less given the fast rising prices of all 60's Ferrari's.

Surely there are still many, many restored examples of these donor cars, if anything, the fact that the total numbers of those original cars have been reduced, it would imo follow, that those still around in either restored or existing condition, will only rise further in value given their reduced numbers & hence become too expensive to use as donor cars.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder & if someone wants to rebody their car to look like something else more beautiful, whilst they still maintain the joy of driving a genuine 60's Ferrari chassis & engined car, I'm not against it... at least I suspect they're being driven more often & I also suspect most on here would advocate "drive em, don't just garage em".

I also support the building of the GTO Engineering cars, it ultimately will help, as Ian says, to preserve original cars :).

Not me, mine's never coming out of the garage again ....... and I just bought a crown to put on it :p

I have to say, all this crying and gnashing of the teeth over what was (in period) described by R&T as abysmal handling and truck-like steering on so-called iconic cars like the Lusso, 250 GTE and others leaves me laughing.

Now Road and Track is not the bible but the Yanks never looked at Ferrari as the holy grail of motoring but now, because they are worth a fortune, people think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread

The Lusso is beautiful but I wouldn't want one, the 275 is absolutely gorgeous but again I wouldn't want one, the 308s all bottom on our secondary roads and increasing the spring rates is a cure for it but again I wouldn't go back to one.

The only old Ferraris I want and could live with are the C4 and 365BB

I admired JohnH's 250 and he used it a LOT but the body roll was horrendous and he is a good driver of that car :)

I really enjoyed driving Simon's 365 but the 330 was too much like my 2300 so not as enjoyable as the 365 and I would like to thank Simon again as it cured me of my apprehensions of driving Ferraris in the wet after the accident, sure footed and comfortable to drive .... thanks mate :)
