Sadly after Mitchell the suit made sure there would never be another powerful car/design man like him. The following decades of torpid Gm products speaks volumes. It too Musk to realize the electric car. Can you imagine a Gm with vital leaders instead of corporate bean counters. The same quality of "professional mangers" then moved on to Boeing.
Looks like a Lexus on the road. If that's what BMW was shooting for good luck to them as they are nothing special anymore.
To drive, excpet for hp(a lot) they've been midpack for a while. KIA does steering way better. I thought the 4 series had nice proportions and the nose is its own thing, not really offensive just different with presence without being fugly. As an origional e46 M3(30k miles) owner imo thats the last great car bmw made in terms of proportions and quality. The e46 is pretty much the only BMW I have felt compelled to walk into a showroom, deal with their lame purchase experience and buy. Maybe back in the day if I had the scratch then a M1 or later a z8. The old 5 series drove great too. The new x5 with v8 and good suspesion is imo the pick of the peemium suv litter is thats ones thing, but thats about it. Still for a modern the 8 series and 4 series look ok to me, Imo the alfa Gulia is the type of car BMW used to make only betetr.
My only BMW was a 3.0CS, a very nice and good looking car wich I sold to get a 1969 Alfa GTV 1750 as the BMW felt very heavy. I think PSA will mess Alfa up in short order, I hope I am wrong.
Something just occurred to me... BMW 540i (E39): Wheelbase: 2,830 mm (111.4 in) Length: 4,805 mm (189.2 in) Width: 1,800 mm (70.9 in) Height: 1,445 mm (56.9 in) BMW 3-series M-Sport (G20): Wheelbase: 2,851 mm (112.2 in) Length: 4,709 mm (185.4 in) Width: 1,827 mm (71.9 in) Height: 1,442 mm (56.8 in) I wonder if the interior dimensions are as close. I also wonder if someone could do an aftermarket offering to rebody a G20 to look like an E39 inside and out. Modern performance and driving, but classic design to look at. All the best, Andrew.

Very cool. Old school sketching! He had me when he talked about and acknowledged beauty. Love to see one in the metal.

IMHO, the "Busy 4X" is too Plain Jane. Needs more lines here and there (like this) to express a continuous mode of visual narration. Image Unavailable, Please Login
