Question for the docs here:

Late March my GP biopsied a dodgy spot which came back as a BCC. His recommendation was for a topical treatment (six weeks of fairly severe irritation), but because I have a low threshold for irritation but a higher threshold for pain, I asked could it not be excised. He was happy to do that in rooms, but because of the location (temple) I was concerned about maybe not getting everything in one go. I asked about Moh’s surgery or a plastic surgeon to do a larger excision just to make sure a ‘second go’ wasn’t needed. Ended up with a referal to what’s supposed to be the top plastic person the coast. I saw him on Mar 23 and he advised an elliptical excision in rooms- all good except he only does surgery in rooms 1 day per month so I had to wait 5 weeks for the procedure (no slot I could use on the March operating day). So when I go in yesterday, he’s looking to mark out the cut and then stops and says it’s grown and now he wants to do a ‘flap’ because otherwise the incision will cause my eyebrow to end up “pulled up”. But of course that can’t be done in rooms and I need to reschedule. I asked how much distortion there might be (frankly, my face is so asymmetrical anyway, I doubt it would be a problem) but he wouldn’t contemplate it and I got he lecture about his professionalism and he ‘wouldn’t leave a patient disfigured’. Disclosure here- while he IS considered the best plastic surgeon, he’s very focused on cosmetics; at the first appointment he looked at the BCC for maybe 15 secs then spent the rest of the time commenting on the sun damage to my skin, how a brow lift would help etc etc. I’m super angry about the stuffing around, especially since he made no mention of time risks (my GP initially said BCC are slow growing and having to wait for the appointment shouldn’t be a risk) and he STILL hasn’t advised when he CAN do this larger surgery which will involve day hospital.

So, after all that - should I be sticking with this guy or looking for another referral. I just want the bloody thing gone! I’ve now wasted over 5 weeks with guy.
