Please make sure that neither the "250 LM" book, nor the "Ferrari by Vignale" book gets damaged when the shelf collapses...........Just last weekend at the Ni-Cola auciton in Germany a copy of the 250 LM book sold for Euro €580. Marcel Massini
Hahahaha !! I promise at the first big creak of the bookshelf those two books will be the first two I save Marcel. Like trying to decide what to save when the house is burning down. Currently looking at buying Making a Difference so that might have to be the third. Went to my local USM distributor here in Melbourne yesterday to get a quote on changing the bookshelf to their system. Rolex is right. The cost for 4 bookshelves similar in size to the one both your books are on is the cost of a new Rolex stainless steel GMT (at RRP). Might have to hold off on that for a little while. Too many other things I'd rather buy, like another Rolex, instead.
One can easily spend 150 Grand USD for USM bookshelves but it is definitely worth it. Rolex? Forget it, way too mundane. Get a Patek. Marcel Massini
I would love to but they are even harder to find then a stainless sports Rolex. But if you can find me one of these at RRP pricing... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very nice collection Mark, looks like I need to buy some more books in order to have any hope of keeping up
Impressive! Can you share your thoughts on this: Image Unavailable, Please Login Envoyé de mon iPad en utilisant FerrariChat
A few comments on shelf storage for books. I know many people have wooden book shelving, but in truth wood is one of the worst materials for book preservation. The acids in the wood and some coatings are detrimental long-term for books and paper. One may not see the decline in a decade or two; but over a long time, not best approach. Museums stopped using wood in any archival system. They all use metal/glass shelving systems and metal cabinetry. Just as matter of general interest, there is an Italian company (of course!) called Goppion Technology that makes custom museum display cases for major museums around the world. They are amazing, built internally to an aircraft standard, beautifully made. For long glass cases for example they engineer hydraulics for access to be able to swing up the weight of the glass. Cost a fortune! Have a look if you wish: https://www.goppion.com/
The irony is that wood and paper are both derived from the same source initially, yet once processed the wood turns against the paper to spell it's demise.
I have this volume. The three books are; Vol 1 - covers 1911 - 1960 Vol 2 - covers 1961 - 1971 Vol 3 - full race results The text is in English and Italian. The race reports are really good, as they are from contemporary newspapers and they are not just about the race but also the organisation, so there’s some nice back-ground information. Add in some descriptive captions. There’s a good selection of photographs, everything from Ferraris to Etceterinis. I like it. Nathan
Congrats, Mark, you have an impressive library: it's an honor for me to stay among there! Talking about values, there are 29 copies of my book "Ferrari by Schedoni" (Italian edition) signed by Mauro Schedoni himself: I think that sooner or later they will be worth some money, as unfortunately my dear friend Mauro can't sign anymore. I would add to your library the first edition of "Ferrari by Schedoni": only 300 copies (or even a bit less) were printed and it won't be reprinted anymore, as it was only an "hurry up" Italian only edition (done all by myself, page editing and graphics included...) to allow Mr. Mauro Schedoni (very ill at the time of the launch: it was few months ago, December 2020) to see the book printed being still alive. It looks that edition will be replaced soon by the professional definitive edition done by the Editor and with some extra contents (an Italian edition and an English edition). I was told by the editor there still are 15-20 copies left more or less: I would add such a rare book to you collection before it will be too late. Ciao
I was gifted a copy of Micheal Kliebenstein's recent 'Superfinds' over the weekend, and boy is it a gem. Not a lot of written information in there, but as a scrapbook of classic finds from across the globe it's really rather magnificent. I can see me thumbing those pages bare in time. As far as my wife is concerned, 'Ferrari By Vignale' was £15, and '250 LM' is £25 available everywhere. I really hope she doesn't google them at any point.
Well I didn't make Book of the month hehe but proud to see my own publication reviewed in Octane 217 this month Image Unavailable, Please Login
