The black & white footage is very atmospheric! Magic!!!! Great little movie about this incredible car!
Brilliantly done, really brings the car and the amazing story to life. Imagine owning the car as a teenager!
I lived in Seattle when Jon Shirley bought it. I was acquainted with Shirley. He got a lot of information about the car. This enabled Butch Dennison to restore it correctly. I saw the car just as the restoration started. It had had a bad 'restoration' in Paris. Shirley told me a detailed account of the car's history. It was much more complicated than that told in the movie. Shirley did more research about the original car when Dennison did a slight restoration before the car was shown at Pebble Beach. One result of Shirley's additional research was to remove the beautiful leather interior and replace it with vinyl.
I love the car as it is today and all that, but it does seem like the car has a slightly wrong front/nose to this day. The bottom line in the grille opening seems flatter than it was when the car was fist completed. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Good eye! When watching the video, it appears the front of the nose was incorrectly repaired in its early life prior to leaving Palermo for France (when Charles Robert purchased it). As seen both in the video and the picture you posted, the radius of the lower edge (of the nose opening) was originally convex (i.e. subtly curved). Whereas today that edge is completely “flat”/horizontal. The Pebble Beach judges must’ve missed that when it won Best of Show in 2014.
It was discussed here before and I remembered it today, so in fairness I didn't catch it the first time. Still, seems like something one might want to correct...

0402 AM started life as a 375 MM Spider Pinin Farina and was sold by the factory to Roberto Rossellini on the 21st August 1954 for a special price of 4 Million Italian Lire. Half of this amount (2 Million Italian Lire) was a lien granted to Rossellini by A.S.A.I.I., Agenzia Sorrenzioni Autoveicoli Ipoteche Immobiliare. Rossellini raced the 375 MM Spider in Karlskoga, Sweden, in October 1954 with race #43. On the 30th November 1954 0402 AM was registered on Italian license plates of Rome “Roma 213712”, described on paperwork of the Public Automobile Register in Rome as "spyder aperta" (open spyder). In 1955 0402 AM was rebodied by Scaglietti into the current graceful Coupé. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was not involved and cannot comment. Apparently there were some trade-ins and additional cars involved (including Alfa Monza). Marcel Massini
