Incredible. Could you imagine that today? Was the yellow stripe a Belgian tribute or perhaps a tip of the hat to Ecurie Francorchamps?
Good question. What I know: Ecurie Francorchamps took 9 race starts only in Formula 1 between 1952 and 1954. 1952: 4 races 1952: Roger Laurent - Nurburgring (P6) 1952: Charles de Tornaco - Spa-Francorchamps (P7), Zandvoort (P14), Monza (P33) 1953: 2 races 1953: Jacques Swaters - Nurburgring (P7), Bremgarten (P20) 1954: 3 races 1954: Jacques Swaters - Spa-Francorchamps (P12), Bremgarten (P8), Pedralbes (P18) IMO, the yellow stripe doesn’t refer to Ecurie Francorchamps, but rather to Jacky’s nationality (yellow being Belgium’s national race colour). Fun fact: Jacky was married to Catherine Blaton, daughter of Ado Blaton - Ado being Jean “Beurlys” Blaton’s brother. Jean “Beurlys” Blaton, being a very successful entrepreneur, raced for many years in "Ecurie Francorchamps yellow" and was a renowned Ferrari enthusiast/owner/collector… Jacky and Catherine: Image Unavailable, Please Login Jacques Swaters in action (Nurburgring, 1953): Image Unavailable, Please Login Jean “Beurlys” Blaton in action (Ferrari 250 GTO, Le Mans 1963): Image Unavailable, Please Login Racing driver Vanina Ickx is the daughter of Jacky and Catherine: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Patrick Tambay is a real gentleman. I remember him as my instructor at the Paul Ricard Racing School.

"I don't want to sound like a retrospective person stuck in the past, but the fact remains that, in my day, everything was in the hands of the driver - the gear changes, the delicate art of clutch control during race starts, managing engine revs during gear changes - everything." - Niki Lauda Image Unavailable, Please Login
It must had been hard for him to replace a friend, he was a good driver, but with too many days off...
