Hmmm; did BMW steal the logo of that other German car company? The one with all the interlocking rings, you know, the one they call AUDI ?

I digress.......looks much influenced by older Vette, and Viper......

I looked up the second version of Bill Mitchell's Mako Shark II AKA Mantaray. I think the Bimmer boys locked in on the rear fender /roof relationship. Bill Mitchell would be proud!

I was thinking it looked very Audi-like before I saw the badge in the final picture.

I guess Audi got the styling cues right for brand recognition... for me anyway. 50% success! :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

For your Sunday enjoyment! This was the cat's meow back in 1958.

An auction announcement came in my email this morning for one of these adorned almost exactly the same way except for the continental kit. I did a search and found one outfitted with the full monte except there are no dice hanging from the rear view mirror:

    About this event

This event will focus on the vehicle designs of one of our living legends, 2002 AFH Inductee Georgetto Giugiaro. This Italian design genius was responsible for many classic vehicles including the Lotus Esprit, BMW M1, DeLorean, VW Rabbit, and more. His skill helped create more than 60 million cars built by companies all over the world. Owners of Giugiaro-designed cars are welcome to display them in front of the Automotive Hall of Fame during the event. Plus, enjoy additional display cars inside the Hall along with a lecture with Italian design experts.

The event will run from 1 – 4 p.m. Those displaying a vehicle should arrive at noon. Presented in partnership with Hagerty.

    Which style did you rock?

I'm thinking you were probably Row 2, Column 2... or Row 4, Column 4.

CAR DESIGNER/FINE ARTIST TO BE AT MONTECITO CONCOURS

    Car Artist Profile: Mark Steherenberger

When I worked for Motor Trend , a frequent visitor to the office was Mark Stehrenerger, a Swiss born designer who just loved to predict what the new Whatsis was going to look like.

He has a lot of car designer friends--some of them his former students from when he taught at the Art Center College of Design, a famous school for car design in Pasadena. He even taught at the Swiss campus, and became known as a design teacher on two Continents.

He is one of the few dual citizens I know who maintains residences in two countries and works in both-- Oxnard, CA and Montreux, Switzerland.

He is most famous for the conceptual car illustrations which have been have been featured in over 50 major magazines , on websites and in books worldwide but also does historical art, showing how a car model evolved. A lot of car collectors like to buy his prediction of what their car would look like and his presence on the net allows them to do just that. His archives occupy a whole room.

Two automakers he has worked for in design are Bentley and Clenet, the latter a retro car that captured the essence of classic cars of the Thirties.

He no doubt has worked as a consultant for others but the way the car business is, they don't want their secrets divulged of the directions they didn't take (we might like them better!). Not to mention I've seen his lamp designs and heard of his work in after-market car products, sports equipment, shoes, luxury wristwatches (being Swiss, what else?) fashion accessories, medical devices, as well as on-the-go food products.

His next appearance with his art will be at the Montecito Motor Classic Car Show at The Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club October 10th, 2021.

A new book For those of you into Automotive Callipygian! :D

    Image Unavailable, Please Login
Backside beauties: Book focuses on automotive rear ends
Bookshelf: From the authors of ‘Faces of Change’ comes ‘Badass’

Several note that we probably spend much more time looking at the backside of cars ahead of us in traffic jams than we do admiring the grille and headlamps in our rearview mirrors.

Some of the most spectacular rear ends are featured in a 13-page run of Furman photos under the “Future Tense” banner. Included are vehicles such as the 1935 Alfa Romeo 6C-2300 Aerospider, the1936 Bugatti Type 57G “Tank,” the 1936 Stout Scarab, the 1947 Cisitalia Aerodynamica, and the 1948 Tucker.

And Matano’s chapter on “Building the Perfect Butt” includes the story of taking his design team to a lingerie show to study “how the light falls on the curves of the body.”
