Car gets driven 3-4x a year… 18,000 miles on it… Turned it on, let it warm up for a bit. Pulled out of the garage, onto the driveway… Throttle felt “stiff” suddenly… odd… Blipped the throttle in neutral ready to shift into first… went to to 5000 rpm and stayed there! crap! Shut the car off… throttle pedal was very stiff, you press it down takes several seconds to rebound. Not stuck on carpeting… in the engine bay, manipulated the throttle pull… also stiff…felt like in molasses…. wtf? car off, pressed the throttle 10-15x quickly to loosen it up. Helped a bit. Shot wd40 onto the throttle pedal, and on all the throttle linkages I could find in the engine bay… back to normal… what the hell happened? Garaged, climate controlled, dehumidifier in place… not convinced the wd40 fixed it, might of just “spontaneously” corrected… anyone ever have something similar? I certainly don’t want it occurring while driving…
you may take a helper and then disconnect the trottle cable at the engine. one then push the pedal and the other keep the trottle cable and move this back and forth. then you can see where it will stuck

Thanks… just odd that the cable got tight “all of a sudden.” will try to squirt some lube into the cable, but right now it works flawlessly…
Bo that issue not a surprise. There are lots of places to hold up. Seen this problem solved by cleaning and lubricating. Happens on many ferrari models
Be careful. The original throttle cable frayed inside the sheath in my 78 BB512 a few years back. Decided to stick open in traffic, which was interesting. Certainly check for binding, etc., but if this is a recent development and you have not done any work around the cable recently, I would consider replacing it.
Romano, are you sure?? I don't think so. When I had a seatbelt recall done, the F tech didn't know what he was doing. He reinstalled the piece under the dash that is right next to the throttle wrong and when I took off from the dealershit the pedal stuck on that piece and I saw my tach bury the needle before I could grab the key. No rev limiter. That was the last time any other moron worked on my car.
scott, I think so - yes on my competition there was inside the original igintion system and the limiter often was working . how many rpm you had before you grab the key and how long it took until you stoped the engine? may be you have been so much surprised that you not recognized?
I just replaced my speeder cable in my boxer precautionary with a Maranello Approved aftermarket cable. Unfortunately It didn't appear to be same quality as the original but the fit was acceptable. I considered to lube the cable before installation but decided not to and now I'm in doubt; What does the experts recommend, should I force some Teflon enriched oil into the cable sleeve? Best, Peter
But the concept of a mechanical issue still applies -- TR still have two "butterflies", and many adjustable spherical ball joints in the linkage that need periodic lubrication (that they never get). Would never hurt to have a look under the airbox while an assistant operates the acc pedal from idle to WOT to see if something is wrongly hanging up/rubbing; however, a popped strand in the acc cable would be the worst cause.
you are right steve with the 2 butterflies but those are much stronger than those in the carbs and until now I never had one bended
Well go out and start your car. Then stand on the throttle and hold it there. Watch the tach smack the stopper.
I've never seen any mention of an electronic rev limiter in the F TR documentation, but there are at least three different Microplex ignition ECUs used on TR -- MED120A, MED120B, and MED120B/D -- so don't know if they could be different for this issue.
Hey, the AMAZING thing is it didn't blow up! It says a hell of a lot about that motor. I have no idea how fast it ended up but that tach literally smacked the stopper. It sits at 9500 RPM...so...
