    Thank you.

I actually have over 150 Ferrari F1 1/18 high end die cast cars from Exoto, Minichamps, Mattel, early Paul's Model Art, etc all mostly in boxes.

I only have about 8 Ferrari road cars which happen to be on the study shelf.

These three are all CMC with CMC's own display cases and the 288 GTO is a BBR.

I see you already have Alberto's new book. Did you order the special edition?

(Is my local library card good in case I wanted to borrow some of those? :D)

I personally know Alberto and helped him out (to a very minor extent) with some of the English translation of the book.

Personally Paul I'm not a huge fan of the special, leather, owners, etc editions so I passed.

Plus I have my hands full still paying off books that I missed buying back in the day that are earmarked to be on their way.

Slightly off top but stored in front of my library of Ferrari and other motoring books and is something that is as prized to me as my Ferrari.

In fact the reason why it is red was because even back as a 13 year old child I loved Ferrari and knew that anything red was fast.

Gifted from my parents brand new for my 13th birthday and held onto all this time, a few years ago it was restored back to it's original splendour.

I hope this is not too much of a tangent, but what are the options for someone who wants to get rid of his collection of Ferrari books and magazines? I visited a Ferrari collector this week and he's in his eighties. His childern aren't interested in the Ferrari stuff (Not even his cars!). Most of his book collection is mainstream, but there are also complete series of club magazines, Ferrari Market Letter etc and he showed a little book (the very first on Ferrari?) of which another copy recently sold at auction for 2.500 Euro. I don't think he's interested in parting out his collection, but is it realistic to think someone would buy the whole lot? I think it's at least six bookcases full (size comparable to Marcel Massini's example).

Selling almost any type of collection as just one lot is difficult...time consuming, needs a lot of good marketing effort, photos info, etc, etc, and the potential group of buyers is not always large, and then there is getting the attention of the right buyers. Of course there's much more to say about this.....

Also most of the people willing to collect at this level have built their own collection to some level already. For them it is to some degree duplicate copies. Though for a few there is a desire to upgrade something like a yearbook with a copy in better condition. The breadth of this collection may be overwhelming for many with a narrow Ferrari focus. The shipping cost of all that 'weight' would be rather daunting.
The car literature collection of Harold Angel was sold piecemeal on eBay but that took a very long time to complete. That collection as it was assembled over many decades with world wide contacts probably sold for much less than the effort in putting it together represented. Just the 'typical' reality of disposing of a vast hoard of books. :(

No, I would say. The necessary level of interest usually takes time to develop. This process also allows for what amounts to "paying over time". It would be extremely usual to find someone who suddenly has the sufficient degree of interest AND the finance to acquire a large and expensive collection. Lacking this, the issue of duplicate items, inevitably, becomes a problem. The only way to overcome this is with a substantial discount, so as to make disposing of or reselling duplicates a viable option.

On the other hand, breaking up a large collection comes with its own problems. Auction houses are selective about what they will take and keep a significant cut of the proceeds. eBay also takes a cut, is time consuming for a large collection, and leaves one vulnerable to the fraud and frustration that have become endemic to the platform. As Marshall alluded to, it can all get rather complex, rather quickly...

I would perhaps contact a few specialist motoring book shops or online book sellers. They might buy the whole collection off you and being a seller probably wouldn't mind having a second copy of certain books on their shelves. Someone like Horton's or Andy from Cotswold Road and Race for example might be an option.

About 1/3 of my collection you see above was bought from a single gentleman on Fchat who was looking to sell his entire collection. I was building my library at the time and he had many books I was after in excellent condition. I bought the lions share of his library, but not everything. He looked after me by providing me with mint books at a very fair price without having to individually list them and deal with strangers for every sale and has the satisfaction of knowing that they will be cared for and loved for decades, while I have an amazing Ferrari library and didn't have to hunt all over the world for many rare and must have examples at unrealistic prices.

Large lots of books can be a great way to buy, although probably less so for many sellers. The attached lot from a Bonhams sale a few years ago provides a good illustration. Some would have you believe that Matthias Bartz's first edition Dino Compendium is a $1000+ book in and of itself. In this case, it was just one of a 75 book lot that included other desirable titles, all of which sold for $280, inclusive of the auction commission...

    Seems ridiculously cheap to me.

US$280 is an absolute steal for even half of those books.

You can not go by results from Bonhams or Gooding or RM, etc. on selling prices of books. They typically do a very poor job of selling books. Many reasons why on this.

At US$280 for 75 books it works out to be under US$4 a book !!
I challenge someone to buy just one or at the very most two of those books for $4 each.
Something is not right with that auction, I don't care how long ago it was.
