458 100 octane in a 458 Italia

    My local track (Virginia International Raceway VIR) has a shell fuel pump that sells both 93 and 100 octane. I always just get 93, but is it safe to use 100 octane and what are the benefits performance and reliability wise? Does it change the sound?

    As long as it’s unleaded it shouldn’t hurt. Unless you’re running a lot of full throttle in high heat, it probably won’t help either.
    Now if you can only get 90 or less at the regular pump, I’d definitely mix in 100 to get the right octane.

    Running higher octane will allow the engine to delay the spark much more without having engine knock, so you will see a good increase in power and responsiveness, especially if you refill when the tank is almost fully empty. I dont see how it could damage the engine.

    The octanes have nothing to do with the fuel mixture. Higher octane petrol is just more difficult to detonate, that's why you can have a higher compression ratio, as pre-ignition is eliminated.

    If the 458 is equipped with a detonation sensor, the ECU will advance the spark timing up to the detonation threshold. In that the 458 was engineered to operate on 93 octane fuel, it's unlikely that you'll notice any difference ..... except in your wallet.

    98-100 RON (European Super Unleaded), so yes, 93-94 AKI. Then again there is the composition (no ethanol-E5-E10) and other factors, but I believe that higher octane might help on a hot day.

    It won’t hurt any, will certainly reduce risks from bad gas if only 91 is available in your area especially on track at high rpm. Leaded race gas reduces knock potential further but risks damage to catalysts and to a lesser extent 02 sensors.

    I do believe the 100 octane is lead-free. It's the 110, 112 and 116 octane racing fuels that contain lead. At least that is how it is down here in Florida.
