GS stuff- -GS is far more popular here in Asheville. I was at the dealer on Saturday and maybe 15:1 GS vs RT. The only RT they had in for service was a cop bike. -The GS tallness takes some getting used to but it's no taller at the seat than the RT. I'm both feet flat on the ground. -I thought they had the same ratios but for some reason the GS is much easier to ride around town. 1st gear doesn't feel so long and the wide bars make it easy to maneuver. Maybe lower final drive? -A zillion bag and luggage combinations with the GS and lots of aftermarket "farkle". -Maybe the biggest surprise is that the GS actually does a good job with the wind. Just the right amount to keep the buffeting off of you. Somebody spent a lot of time in a wind tunnel. -I know it's after the "adventure theme" but outside of a pretty decent dirt road it's still too big a bike to have fun off road even if you don't mind lugging it around. RT- -Much better mileage and range. I get about 55-60MPG vs 45MPG on the GS and the RT has a bigger tank. 380 miles of range vs 200. -Obviously, much better coverage but you tend to get moved around more by trucks as they pass. Just better protection all around for rain and cold. It rains here a lot and you get 10-20° swings in temp from Asheville to the Blue Ridge. -Much better passenger set up on the RT as they ride a little lower. I don't care as I don't ride two up. -better Nav. integration although some people just use their phones. -Easier to clean. -I think better looking. -This is my third RT and all have great brakes. Again, not clear to me why as the brakes are the same but after three it's more than a trend. I think the GS is probably a more comfortable long haul seating position. Both have clunky ass shifting compared to anything else. Both go into a corner like a dream. Easy to stand it up, counter steer or let them fall into the turn. Both are reliable and if you have the CANBUS stuff, which I do, you can do almost everything yourself. Both have plenty of power but not too much. I've kind of lost my zest for the 150+HP bike I had where you're doing 130MPH in the blink of an eye when you pass someone. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks. So... if you were going to hit the open road, you'd take the RT. But if you're going to trailer and drive, the GS?
If I’m going to be out for a week I take the RT just because of having to worry about the weather less. That said, it’s not that much more protection and if I had to just have one bike it would be a GS.
I was in a DEW loop and pretty rode everything. For a do all bike I liked the Ducati Multi Strada the best but there is zero service in Asheville and even modern Ducati’s have quirks that would bother me. For some reason the Gs 850 felt taller and wider at the tank than the gs1200. My favorite in the mid-size area are Triumphs. KTM’s are more off road oriented and the one I rode threw off leg cooking heat. I went with the bigger GS just because it’s easy.
Going through a borderline stupid process of studying and refining a decision. Like a decision loop but more moronic. being stuck trying to figure out what color your new Porsche should be when it doesn’t really matter
Honda's legacy is pretty amazing going back to the 305 Dream, CB750, CR250 Elisinore and the Goldwing you just bought to name a few. IIRC, the motor in your bike was based on a generator engine for lots of smooth reliable miles.

No stickers or other schemes: just carbon fiber and Alpine white over blue chassis and wheels. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The amount of gear I have for motorcycles is ridiculous. Fit is everything which is why I end up with too many coats and pants. I like the BMW GS I bought but the BMW RT is a much better touring bike. I've got a fairly long ride coming up next week and the BMW RT gets the nod. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have the title and the license plate. While waiting for the transporter I copy/pasted my license plate on a 1/12th model. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

I did a bit of a reshuffle of my Ducatis this year. Sold my 996 SPS that I bought new in 1997 along with my 1995 955 Corsa. I kept my Desmosedici that I bought new in 2008 and added a new Superleggera. Unfortunately haven't had the opportunity to ride anything as I am unlucky enough to live in the city that holds the world record for the longest time in lockdown Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
