I just acquired a US-spec 1981 308 GTSi and have questions about the side mirrors. There are painted mirrors on each door and I don’t believe they’re OEM. Can anyone determine with any level of certainty what type they are? Both mirror assemblies ‘sag’ and won’t stay up. Is there a fix for this? I can’t imagine why there’s black sealer added around where the mirror bases attach to the door, especially in this fashion. Any ideas? Lastly, the driver’s power mirror works but the passenger side doesn’t. The switch appears to be the selectable type for use with 2 mirrors. The wiring diagram I have only shows a driver’s power mirror, but I’ve read about adding a different switch and a passenger side power mirror. It would appear that this is what was done, but the passenger side mirror doesn’t work. Has anyone else done or seen this, and does it look like that’s how my car’s equipped? I’m hoping to get an idea of what’s going on before going into 40-year-old doors on a fishing expedition. Getting that sealer off the doors probably won’t be a lot of fun, either. Thanks in advance for any guidance provided. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I believe that nothing came from the factory. Those are very un-original looking. The switch is wrong too. I’d say replace them with whatever you find attractive. Matt
That looks likes the Euro Vitaloni Turbo powered side mirror like this on the pics. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
They look very similar to what are fitted to my '81, though I've always been of the belief that mine were retrofitted from a later model (QV?) some time prior to me buying the car and have the small Ferrari badges on the back. As for them drooping if you pull the concertina boots back, mine have a bolt in there that can be tightened Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ah! That’s part of what I’m looking for; I’ll pull those boots back and look for a fastener to tighten. Thanks!
If you want to put it back the was it was originally, the most likely way an 81 US car left the dealer was with a single black flag mirror. Nothing on the passenger side.
All, Thanks for your replies and photos. 3 of my 4 questions have been answered. Pulling the boot back revealed a bolt to be tightened, just as shown in the photos. As for the black goop? It’s covering a hole in the door at the leading edge of the mirror . Such hackery. If I can find mirrors with a longer mounting base (to cover that hole) that’d probably be the way to go. As for the right power mirror not working, that’s not as much of a concern. If I end up swapping the mirrors then I’ll investigate that at the time. I can’t say it’s worth pulling the door apart just for that. Thanks for all of your help.
The hole isn't a surprise. The US flag mirrors have a longer base than the "euro" or whatever you want to call them, have. You can see a hole peeking out from under the edge of mine from where I swapped mine but my car is black so you just dont see it unless you know its there.
Dr. Tommy, Yes, I’d have to agree. I took the mirror off and cleaned off the goop, and the holes appear to be from the factory mirror. The aftermarket mirror doesn’t completely cover the holes. The other side was an add-on, so there were no holes to cover. And yes, RodC, I’d surmise that the other side may be a matching electrical mirror that they just never bothered to wire. I probably won’t, either. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here is mine with the genuine factory mirrors after removing the flag mirrors. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
And here is one of my cats. No relevance to rear view mirrors. It was just the one pic before those above in my gallery. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have those Euro Vitaloni Turbo powered side mirrors on my 328. Can anyone tell me where I can get new electrical ones like these?
Almost impossible to find one let alone new ones as I tried searching for one years ago because I had two brand new for the right side and after years of searching for the left side I finally found a used one and traded my new right side for it, so now I have a pair, one new right side and one used left side.
ebay search. I assume Italy ebay has more options. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lamborghini-Countach-Espejo-VITALONI-nos-dejo-electrico-muy-Raro-En-Caja-/224569171617?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
I have a few 7075 aluminium mounts left for these mirrors as the original white metal lugs break off. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks. My car currently has a pair of the manual Vitaloni Turbo mirrors that the PO had on it. I would like to get the motorized ones to replace them.
The mirror brackets are £60ea plus post. A few pairs left. If anyone wants flag mirrors I switched to the prettier California mirrors
