I have not found them to be outrageously expensive. I’ll have to check the labour rate price. They will quote you for work prior to it being done so you know what you’re up for. Car is ready in a couple of days not fkn weeks, so if I’m paying more, I don’t care as the car is back with me. I had a couple of small issues once which they fixed straight away, no questions asked. I have no interest in dealing with independents again
Correct. What is the value of having your car at home rather than sat in the back of a shed for weeks or months on end? And in my experience the estimates from the dealer are either accurate or even under. More than once I’ve picked up my car and been presented with a bill smaller than expected.
Thanks Greg that makes all the sense in the world, All I ask is transparency, how much and when will it be ready
Yep Go to FMS. At least if they stuff it up you have some recourse and they have the resources to fix it.
BTC ...... I always assume I can do it cheaper, I charge myself the right price ....... then Marc charges me a fair price
Well put Greg, I’ve had the same experience with FMS. Every time I’ve required work on my car they will do some preliminary investigation and provide a quote that is generally close to the mark. This includes checking if parts are available so my car doesn’t sit there waiting. I once had an issue with the AC compressor that they sent out for repair only to find that it was still faulty once it was all put together and re gassed. Not a problem, they had to dismantle all the surroundings to get back in and send out again......all covered in the quoted amount for job, no BS or excuses. If there are any issues that come up while they are working on the car they call me and allow me attend the workshop and talk me through the issue and discuss options such as using a new part or undertaking a repair as was the case with the AC compressor. I believe labour is $200 p/h. My oil change was was $557 including replacement of both oil filters @ $24.27 each, not bad for a Ferrari dealer price.I also get a car wash thrown in and that all important stamp in my service book that ticks another box if I decide to sell. I know there are lots of good independents out there, but I just find them hard work. Image Unavailable, Please Login
For every one of these stories I could give 3 opposite experiences. For every positive story about independents, I could give 3 negative ones. It must be over 20 years ago that I caused the phrase "mechanics are the curse of Ferrari ownership " It's all fine, until it isn't.
Have a read of the article in current Horsepower from Kelly & Andrew in London - 200 quid an hour! Excellent article BTW. Nearly 100 quid to fuel up the 575...
I have never been able to afford to fill the 95 litre tank in my 348 when 98 was $1.25 p/l. Wtf does Ferrari put BIG fuel tanks in these cars? 115 litre fuel tank in the Testarossa. 110 litre fuel tank in the Enzo!
