So Max has 7 penalty points going into 2022 and the first of those penalty points doesn't expire till Sept. 2022. 5 more and it's a race ban.
They last for a year before expiring so they will be carried to the next season. Since Max got most at the last races they are still quite fresh and will last almost the entire 22 season. If we get less Connelly as a steward Max will be fine. If not he is screwed..
Just watched the latest video on the F1 website that recaps the final race, and after seeing that and a few more highlights of 2021, it was a great year. Also, HAM lost the championship because he missed out on some key passes, got trapped behind various drivers throughout the year, despite having a car probably equal to Red Bull. I think his driving lost it more than tires, pit strategy, etc, so congrats to Max.
that's a part of it, but I'm thinking that in the last race for example, they didn't pit him for tires like Max got near the end, but on the other hand he'd lost X amount of time by taking so long to pass Perez also. Teams get the pit/tire strategy wrong all the time, but if the driver consistently doesn't make the pass on slower cars, that's the driver.
Even with all of the nonsense in the final race, the better driver over the course of the entire season won the championship. There were several opportunities where Hamilton and Mercedes failed to maximize their points, and that’s how they lost it. It actually reminds a bit of when Vettel threw it away a few years back, but nowhere near as bad. That was a complete implosion.
He was bound to be super cautious against Perez, I mean the Mexican actually understands what it is to be a number 2 driver, it's a shame Bottas always waved Verstappen by.
