Re: Experts/pricing. Years ago I was looking for a 330GTC. I sent 3 deposits on 3 cars that could not pass a PPI. IIRC the prices were $79k $104k and $118k. Then a car came on the market at $140k. 330GTCs were generally selling at a bit less than $100k. This was a car recently restored by Patrick Ottis. An expert here opined, after seeing the car, the restoration was just TOO perfect. Back in the day, Americans were known for over-restoring cars, poo-poo’ed by our continental friends. So, I internalized his learned opinion. So, following the advice of our resident expert, not wanting to appear to be a tasteless American, I passed on the car at $140k. So, I suppose my point is, experts have valid, well informed opinions but not infallible.
What is TMU mileage listed for 03744? Google says TMU can mean Total Miles Unknown? 76k Miles Shown, TMU
Where is it going? Is it staying in California? This is definitively showing a price trend. There’s a comment that it was blue when the long term owner originally bought it. Does anyone (Matthias? Marcel?) know what the original color combo was? Image Unavailable, Please Login
And the car was poorly presented—-marginal seller’s rep feedback, marginal photos, no real driving video other than watching it drive 50 yards, no books, tools, manuals, jack, pouches, and no documentation or history from what I could tell. Also lots of unoriginal work and parts. If they had maintenance records I don’t recall seeing them.
Again, it's BaT- the sellers' venue where people with marginal Ferrari knowledge regularly pay remarkable prices for unremarkable cars.
100 percent inaccurate. Lots of very knowledgeable eyes which bring meaningful transparency to all buyers.
It is a seller’s venue but I did think there were many knowledgeable comments. I can’t imagine almost any Dino on BaT going for less than $400K in this market.
S/N 06100 is the next BaT Dino. It is supposed to go live this afternoon, not sure what time, but this is going to be a better presented Dino. I would expect a big number.
I bought 03744 today on BAT. Agree with some of your comments, but understand that some of the due diligence in researching a car on BAT isn't done by asking questions on the public auction site. I believe I know what the starting point is with this car. My goal will be to bring it close to the standard of the other recent Dino sales. I'm hopeful this will be a great community for help and advise, as I work to get this 246GT back to original condition. Appreciate everyone's knowledge and expertise as stewards of these great cars.
Congratulations! A very nice Dino and well bought. You may find the folks here can get a bit nit-picky with minor details. You will also find a Dino is one of the greatest pleasures you will ever experience.
Hi David - Welcome Home!!! New Dino experiences are always so cool. As much as we were nitpicking your car and guessing values, we have been bored and things like this seem fun to us. Your Dino is awesome and, collectively, we will all help in anyway we can. By now you have obviously read through this thread, both comments about the market and where it’s going. As someone who just pulled the trigger on a Dino, would you mind sharing your thoughts and views? Shawn
In regards to prices, I’ll admit I’ve been asleep at the wheel! Tangentially, there seems to be a recurring theme, not just here but elsewhere, that car values remain stable relative to other comparable cars. Specifically, Daytonas and 330GTCs always seem to be referenced as cars that must always be valued higher than Dinos. “How could a Dino ever eclipse a Daytona? Insanity.” Well, I don’t buy it. Relative values can change over time. I give you the early Porsche Speedsters which were the “economy” model but now dominated the 356 values of that time frame. Similarly, I see no reason Dino values cannot eclipse Daytona or 330GTC prices if the market demand pushes it in that direction.
