Except that it isn't luck. It wasn't luck for MSC and it isn't luck for HAM. These are the guys that understand it's a team game whereas there has never been any team in ALO. Remember, ALO is the guy that shopped his own team to the FIA, knew 'nothing' about his teammate being ordered to crash (despite agreeing to an inconceivably uncompetitive strategy) and tried to shaft another teammate by blocking his box in qualifying. He also publicly humiliated his engine suppliers (who as it turned out, weren't actually the main problem). In fact, if ALO had been a team player, HAM would already be an 8-times WC!

Great result for Lec! Shame for Sainz. Great duel for the top 4 places.

Merc clearly not made any material progress. It’s borderline too late for them to retrieve their season. 3rd place in the wcc beckons.

Shame for Alo - he had the pace today. Hope he can carve his way through the field on Sunday.

Stroll and Latifi - two utter wastes of space and should be sued for stealing 2 seats from much more worthy drivers.

Right. Never mind the the rest of the misfortune he endured throughout the season with safety cars.

Nevertheless, if what Carlos says is true about them putting him on cold tires, it’s inexcusable, and you can’t have that happening in a title fight. Ferrari needs to consistently give both drivers a shot at victory until they should put all of their eggs in one basket.

Sainz's car wouldn't start which led to him rushing out the pit at last minute and not giving him time to prepare the tyres optimally I think.

I'm more pissed about his first lap being disallowed because the red light went on literally 1 second before crossing the line....

It’s only race 3. No progress for merc I agree.
Hamilton corrected his standards in quali so to speak.
    Great Mclaren progression.
Ferrari still seems to be the team to beat but without a ross brawn or Jean todt in the the pits at the helm I don’t sense they having the upper end strategy wise over Red Bull

    Don’t be so pessimistic..
Truth is Binotto doesn’t speak too much but he is a very methodical organiser.
Do you know the pit stop team made 1500 pit stops in December at the factory ?

Pit stops are one thing but so far over the past few years he has been here he has not been fantastic…so until proven otherwise I think rbr has the advantage strategy wise but this could change;)

    STR: useless
Aston Martin and Williams: comedy of Errors?
    MAG: still ill?
    Mick: good qualifying!
    LEC: Champ
Sainz: I have faith he and LAC can do it
VER: said he was uncomfortable all weekend
PER: as noted above, now he’s up with Max in Quali, had an upgrade that Max didn’t today?
HAM: we’ll, if he’s the goat, he barely beat his teammate!
ALO: GP2 engine!! Not sure if it was electrical or hydraulic, but he’s still a top driver.

    What happened with Sainz today?
Why is he so down the order?
Anybody care to fill me in?

Red flag came out 1 second before he crossed the line on his 1st flyer invalidating it, then his starter wouldn't work and he barely got out in time for his second lap and couldn't warm his tires properly. His 1st flier was quicker than charles 1st, so he'd have been no worse than 4th.

That does seem bad.. Did see the highlights to see shunting from Alonso and Latifi. Too bad it affected his qualifying.
While I am sure Carlos will be on a different strategy, Charles will have to do much of the defending by himself.
Latifi and stroll!!!What can I say..

Perfect summary. Final point most definitely. Enough inept and sub-performance on the grid from them both. Williams should dump Latifi and hire Nico from Aston. Enough.

Lance has a delusional father's dream of a famlly title glory so he is 'safe'. The team suffers with this arrangement. Pathetic. The team deserves better.

Not a perfect qualifying for Ferrari (and their engines in Haas and Alfa)...but we still have pole and both cars in the top ten. Charles will have his hands full at the front. Sainz an even tougher job working his way through drivers who won't give up a spot without a fight. The season won't be a walk away for anyone. That means Ferrari has to be on top of their game 24/7. Looking forward (with some anxiousness) to the race.

Bad enough and not good enough either. He would not have a seat without his family. Thats common wisdom for years now and in the paddock. Nature of F1's past yes. I think enough now. With the talent out there teams must maximize points. Lance isnt good enough at all. He had his time to 'shine'-- off to the yacht.

But has he been worse over the past 5 years than:
    -Grosjean?
    -Mick Schumacher
    -His own teammate Vettel
    -Tsunoda
    -Kvyat

I’d argue he has been average and he gets bad press because of his father but he is actually reasonably skilled compared to a lattifi, mazepin, giovanazzi and co
