Hi Mike! This may make some interesting reading for you.

    http://antique-autoradio-madness.org/Blaupunkt/Blaup_72/Blaup_72_02.htm

it shows an external cassette attachment for the ‘main’ DIN sized radio unit. I know Becker made something similar at the time too. of course it could have been an 8 track I suppose. Ivan shows a picture of the (ugly) installation in the Ghibli reference guide on his site.

This chap in NY seems to have lots of relevant stuff too.

    happy hunting!

Hi Mark. Thank you for the info. I will be looking through the antique radio madness link you sent as soon as I get a chance. The numbers shown on one of the pictures Ivan sent may turn up there
Somewhere. Gene is looking for a picture of an
8 track installation!! I will check on Ivan’s
write-up again!! Hopefully all this info will be
    useful to someone later!!

How is your car coming along?

    I owe you an e-mail!!

    Mike

I searched my pictures of my late Ghibli but could not find a picture of the tape player. I am sure it was a factory installation as it was listed on the papers from Fabio. attached is a picture of the radio. not too good but the best I could find

Great pictures Ivan. Mine looked just like the photo with the tan leather covered box on top of the drive shaft tunnel

    All..

Thank you to Gene, Ivan, Joe, and Mark for assistance on the radio / tape deck question... I really appreciate your
    input and pictures..

I did contact Fabio Collina regarding this issue.. Unfortunately, he couldn't be of much help but he did respond very quickly (impressive).
His response indicates the Historical Archives do not contain available information on stereo tape players installed (when requested)
by the customer. However, he does indicate that it is probable that the tape player was installed at the Factory given that it is indicated
on the Factory documentation (Avviso di spedizione)...

If any of you, or anyone else, has any ideas, thoughts, etc.., please post them here..

The quest for info goes on!

more than likely the cars left the factory with a blank plate where the radio would be located. The radios and antennas were then installed by the distributor in each country or the selling dealer. The same thing with external rear view mirrors

My Ghibli clearly states on the Bill Sheet that it was dispatched with a Becker Grand Prix and electric antenna (plus fog lights and musical horns). These items were installed by the factory and not by a dealer. As I said before, if the build sheet lists an option that option was installed at Maserati.

But sometimes, cars were taken back to the factory for other mods or upgrades.

Mine had for example fog lighhts replaced by high beam additional ligts due to a mistake of the Factory.

+ some other more significant upgrades.

    Ha, ha!! I wish

Yes, I found after 8 years that my Ghibli has 3x 38 DCNL5 and only one 40 DCNL5 but the funny thing was, it wasn't running too badly at all.
I have just found a set of these thanks to Mark so fingers crossed they do the job! Thanks for everyone's help!

Agreed Ivan. I thought it would have broken $800k to be honest. Not too many cars with that hard top around. I think it would have looked better in its original Rosso Cordoba and wearing either wires or starburst wheels rather than those it had, but it did seem rather nice overall.

The Ghibli coupe I am selling has those same Borrani solid wheels and I think they look quite nice. I also thought it would break $800K. There was no mention of tools, manuals or receipts. No idea what has and has not been done to the mechanicals.

Price corresponds to between condition #1 and #2 according to Hagerty, so quite fair, considering that this spyder does not have its original colours (but the hardtop is a nice plus).

Ivan, were the Borrani bimetal wheels a factory option?
They are very rare in 15" and they look indeed nice, without the brittleness issues of the Starbust magnesium wheels.

Yes, they were a factory option. I've had several Ghiblis with those wheels.
