    A great Ferrari mechanic died suddenly a couple weeks ago and his shop (NJB Auto in Westerville OH) apparently has a high mileage 550 that is award winning at Concorso Italiano at Monterey; and only needs a full belt and service maintenance and usual touch ups in the range of $10,000-12,000. I'm told by a friend in FL that the 550 has custom and regular wheels and original exhaust as well as a prototype tuned exhaust system, As I understand it, the car can be purchased now, as is, for $110,000 and the new owner can either put $8,000 to $12,000 into the car with the skilled people at NJB- or anticipate it being offered out of Florida in a month or two after it is fully maintained; priced I'm told at $130,000 or higher. How many 550's have a "story" (in Pilota magazine I'm told)- let alone be high mileage and DRIVEN Ferrari! I suggest you contact NJB. This will be your last chance to buy a great 550 for $110,000.

    So what? I'd just heard about it and wanted to pass it on. $125,000= $110 (as is) plus maintenance cost.

    Thanks. Anybody who's interested can contact NJB Auto for discussion. I don't have anything to do with them. This 550 may be the sleeper of 550's ...that's all I know.

    I'm informed that a mechanic at NJB did not pass away- it was someone involved in management- so their good work continues.

    If Joe is right and it’s Steve GS Johnson’s old car then that would be interesting.

    That thread was neat on his yellow 550.

    That car was a federalized Euro (German delivery) car and heavily modified.

    The market is still strong but 18 months ago I would have assumed a heavily modified high mile car would have traded very low (heck the bottom) since so many of the typical buyers are “unmodified traditionalist and focused on low miles and then the hassle for California buyers on top would make a euro car even that much less interesting.

    I’ll try and find time tomorrow to make a call and get the full details.

    I’m not a traditionalist so miles and mods wouldn’t turn me off but my wife would really raise the roof if I bought a second 550…..I’d have to sell 2 other toys to avoid her wrath…..

    I called NJB today and asked: the car is American-spec, owned since 2004 by a driver who did most of the 75,000 miles showing. The car was crashed ...once... and won a V12 class award at Concorso iItaliano n Monterey months after the accident (apparently the award plaque is in the car in Ohio). This 550 has been an engineering test bed and has been written up in magazine(s).

    What year is it?

    To me that sounds “dreamy” in a fun/good way but for traditional Ferrari guys that’s a “no bueno”.

    I love yellow on a 550.

    Will be fun to see how that car plays out.

    Wish you had gotten a chassis number or photos or enough info for one of us to find an article, etc. Maybe Joe or Terry or one of guys will know more.

    i was just checking my notes on my phone and I didn’t have notation on “source” so I don’t remember if I found this or dug it up from Nathan’s registry when I was scouring the earth for my perfect 550 but I found this note (not promised to be accurate)…
