Ferrari snobbery at its best is what I'm seeing. I ask where do you see values in 20 years on this particular car and all you can muster is "just be glad you own one, enjoy it and make your money in other ways...". Assume i'm the poorest F owner in here or that I bought the car as an investment in the first place. This "If you decide to ask, you cant afford one anyway" , "why don't you just enjoy it like I do because I'm so rich it doesn't matter" narrative is gross.

This was how you started your first post...

In the second post someone responded thoughtfully to which you then argued with...

Then you end with this insulting post...

So..my conclusion isn’t that we are a bunch of snobs but rather that you didn’t immediately hear what you wanted to hear in the little echo chamber you were seeking.

You bought a car we enthusiasts have owned to enjoy, that is the recommendation you received because no one knows what the **** is going to happen in 20 years. And furthermore, no one gives a ****.

Here is a more interesting plot going back to 2015, the last year the 458 was made.
Does anyone know the cause of the spike in prices in 2Q 2019?

I wonder if the gap between 2012 and 2015 will tighten as the 2015 maintenance programs are expiring? Was always under the impression that spec and condition trumped year on these cars…

I wanted to talk about future values of 458’s, not why I should or should not own a Ferrari, specifically the snide innuendo that I bought my car for all the wrong reasons. The piling up on that wired sticking point was the turn off.

it’s the equivalent of asking say thoughts on prison reform and then talk about not being one for law and order.

But you are right in that I was looking for answers related to my question. I certainly didn’t want it to go personal as it did.

My fault, I should have been clearer.

As a 2013 458 Spider owner (purchased used 'cause I can't afford a new one), and as no doubt the poorest 458 owner on this thread, I too have been struggling with selling now while the values are high (because I need the money for retirement). Who knows why these values are so high: Covid, inflation, last NA engine. But I too am curious when the bubble will burst, and the prices start falling. Maybe when the government bans gasoline powered vehicles, or "cash for (Ferrari) clunkers".

Any speculation on future value would be exactly that, speculation. If you look at the historical date, pre-Covid the value was Decreasing. It was decreasing/depreciating at a slower rate than most cars. Right now it is impossible to predict what it will do in the future. With the global economy and a looming recession one school of thought would be the current bubble we are in will burst and pricing will drop. I do not think it is feasible for the Covid trend to continue and I believe we are already seeing the beginning of the bubble bursting. With the 458 I would expect the pre-Covid depreciation levels to continue, once things normalize. With that being said that is purely my speculation and if I could predict the future I’d pick the stocks or the winning lottery numbers that are going to make me most money.

Question: "Post your theories, anecdotes, and experiences making the case as to why we should hang on to our 458's and never sell in the near future."

Answer: I think the case as to why one should hang on to the 458 and never sell is the driving experience of the car. Not only is the performance more than 99% of drivers will ever be able to use, the aesthetics of the car are unique and special - i.e., the sound of revs at 9,000 rpm redline, the linear and immediate throttle response, the weight/feel of the steering, the smack of the DCT under shifts at load, etc. The looks of the car are also stunning. I do not see a lot coming out that can compare to this experience. That is why one should never sell.

Interesting chart, the curves are similar to just about every car out there in the last 2 years. I dont think this is unique to the 458 as much as everyone here wants to believe it. My 765 is about 200K over list now, my Urus is up about 20% from where I bought it, my GTS is selling for about $200K more than MSRP and the kicker is that my Jeep 392 is also well above list.

My crystal ball is that the 458 will settle in between $150k and $200K for the better ones. Speciale and SA will go down and then up again.

the 458 enjoyed the ride up like all cars
the questions is will the 458 avoid the ride down?
if not, Sargepug is going to need therapy

Yes it will come down, the question is how much and when. I do believe it will eventually come back up to current values but not in the short term.

My opinion is that it is one of the GOATS; beautiful , fast enough and great sound. Time will tell.

Don't sell if you don't have to.

A lot of my thoughts/rationale has already been stated but fwiw I own a 2014 highly-specd 458 Spider- 2nd owner. I've driven 488, F8 and past Monday a (phenomenal) 296- Would not trade 458 straight across for any of them- and they are all fantastic and beautiful cars.

For me and I think many, the combination of last NA, last Pininfarina, heart-stopping lines, reliability, versatility in the real world etc etc means that while a lot were made/sold they will always have a certain panache to them and as such values will be solid. Obviously they will come down from the current euphoria but will stay solid. I doubt there will be many attractive-spec 458s with reasonable miles and solid maintenance records that will sell for less than msrp- Just speculation.

I also own a 95 355 GTS- Same thing- 360 and 430 were better cars in every respect but 355s have a certain combination of looks, sound, feel etc that give them a leg up from a passion standpoint over 360s and 430s (manual 430s notwithstanding).

Imho someone paying $300k+ for a 458 right now is probably going to take a hit financially but have a milestone car- someone paying anything around msrp will be flat and the fortunate ones who bought new have a decent investment but not a retirement account.

Regardless if you are lucky enough to have one and don't need to sell I would not- Cheers :cool:
