Thanks for watching! That principle also applies to the interior: you can unscrew the pieces of the door panels again and again.

Red 1986 3.2 Mondial Coupe was my first Ferrari. Great machine - bought it sight unseen and drove it home from California to Connecticut. Tough as old boots..

made something similar when i did mine - used 1/4" threaded rod, nuts, washers and PVC as the "receiver" to avoid marring up the fresh powder coat - worked perfectly every time

Mine took fully TWO WEEKS of fiddling to break loose... Pry bar - fail - soak with PB Blaster - give up and have a beer. Lather - rinse - repeat. Every day for two weeks before the first bolt budged... Also followed Birdman's instructions after all that.... A mechanic friend of mine just shivered when I said I was doing CV joints and axle boots.... His comment was "That has to be the filthiest job in all of Mechanicdom!" I thought he was kidding, but no! Where does that grease come from?!? It gets EVERYWHERE, and it's impossible to remove/clean up.....

For those who need to do the CV joints - it is absolutely a very messy job and you may want to consider an alternate approach. I purchased new Porsche 930 CV joints for about $35 each from FCP euro and the boots with oetiker clamps, moly grease and the circlip for about $8.50 each. Then stripped and powder coated the axles and re-assembled...the only thing missing is that pale green paint that ferrari had on the CV joints:

What might have been the purpose of the green paint? Corrosion protection?

It does have some gloss sheen, so it is not an etching primer which can have a greenish appearance. Maybe the supplier did some colour coding for different manufacturers they would have supplied.

Yes, agreed. But that green color can be reapplied on the Porsche joints... Here is a older pic of mine, where you can see the residue of the green paint. Color code would be nice... ;-)

    Frank,

    Welcome to ownership and Ferrarichat.

The members are here to assist you with DIY questions AFTER you have exhausted the search button and taken your own time to thoroughly read through the majority of posts in the model section to get started.

You’ll greatly connect with your car after doing this and then you can seamlessly fit in with the rest of the members with a balanced back and forth. I say this so you don’t get knifed asking the same questions already covered ad nauseum in many places here on the site.

Thanks and welcome to the club.

    Robb
