Enzo's birthplace?

Good question. Also, where did Enzo die? Was it in a hospital or his residence?

Enzo died at his home on Largo Garibaldi in Modena. cant remember the number. but it is still owned by the Ferrari Family. it has commercial units on the ground floor residents on the top 4 floors. Enzo owned the entire building, and lived on the 2nd floor - with Piero and Fionna on the 3rd. when his wife and mother were alive the mother lived on the 3rd floor. 4th and 5th were rented out to various drivers and assistants... I think his driver Pepino lived in one for close to 45 years.

Hmm... not sure. The last name Ferrari is pretty common actually ... literally meaning Smith - as in iron smith....

Enzo & the family are buried/interred at San Cataldo cemetery in Modena. it's a lot of work for the Ferrari logo on the bottom to be etched in stone.

I still think he was born at his father's home, where now there is the MEF Museum, at Modena, Italy.

Maybe "Villa Santa Caterina" was that house name: it happens very often that a big villa has a name.

I think you are correct. Mr. Ferrari Senior -Enzo's father was not wealthy enough to have a villa... but he was not poor either.... the museum at Modena I think shows that he was born there... I just cant remember. the house is really cool. One of our local FCA members - and Former FCA president Doug Freeman was instrumental in documenting Enzo's birth place - which is not the Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena... highly recommended as well. its much better than I thought it would be. if you go during the week day -around 11 AM - you will likely have the entire place to your self. parking is great, and its close to the old city and train station.

 

Thank you Tom, but I had been there no less than 30 times and we even had dinner in the museum: yes it's very nice to visit.

I've been 4 times, and each time I like it even more. I did not expect that, I figured the I would like the museum in Maranello better. .. I love all the written documentation they have about Enzo and the factory ... its highly recommended.

 

Enzo Ferrari was born in Modena, via (street) Santa Caterina n.136.

Today there is no more that house. It's 500 meters from MEF Museum in Modena, but on the opposite side of the railway. His father Alfredo Ferrari produced parts for railroads so the home and the factory "Officina Meccanica Alfredo Ferrari" were just aside the rail tracks: on the south side (factory) and on the north side (home)
