Looked like a very nice car and the presentation was well done except for worm gear hose clamps. I’m thinking that if they re-painted to original color it may have added some value.
If you hadn't noticed, another GT4 has popped up on BaT. 15226: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1979-ferrari-308-gt4-10/
It's a good looking car—not a fan of those mesh bumpers, thank goodness you have the originals! Looks solid, well maintained, and in really good shape. Good luck, you should do well!
I made them myself. I think they look OK, and they shave a bit of weight of either end! Very easy to swap on/off too. Cheers.
Thanks, yeah original is best. She is a wonderful machine and I have learnt a ton being her caretaker.
Here is a well-priced car with little info, maybe a color change to white? I can't find much info on it, seems to have been auctioned in May. https://www.ebay.com/itm/295377813354 https://www.ebay.com/itm/295377813354
That car has been floating around eBay for sale for a while, I figure there must be something wrong with it. From what I can glean from the photos, there's a lot of aftermarket junk on it… like this side-view mirrors, shift knob, speakers in the doors, and that hideous speaker between the back seats. Not to mention they blacked-out all the chrome. There's so much that's not correct about it, and the body/interior just are average. At $60k, that one is too high, especially if the buyer wants to restore it as you'll be spending at least double that.
The white car is a $30k car at best and that’s in this crazy market. The market continues to soften, as can be seen with the red car on BAT this week. GT4’s seem to be coming somewhat back towards earth. Their scarcity will keep them popular, but as discriminatory dollars tighten, values of many base model sports cars will soften.
I don’t consider the price that the recent BAT car brought to be soft. I thought it was a pretty strong number for that particular car. There was nothing especially distinguishing about it.
The history appeared well documented, the manual and the leather pouch were included, tool kit and jack looked nice. The paint was incorrect in some areas and painted ignition coils were a minus. Crazy but Ferrari value all about originality. Don't tamper with royalty.
This one should be fun… salvage title, not too tidy, and did someone sit on dashboard above the gauge cluster?? https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1978-ferrari-308-gt4-6/
Series II has the larger grill that goes all the way across the front. That's probably the most noticeable difference.
Another obvious marker for Series II is that the glovebox has a silver trim piece that sits on the front above the hinge. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Is it known if Gandini made that modification, somebody else at Bertone, or maybe somebody at Ferrari? Frankly I think the full width grille opening is a more resolved design.
I agree. My '75 has the newer opening. It didn't have the grill when I bought it and I purchased a new one that is still sitting in the box waiting to be installed. I think it looks much nicer. However, it may tend to dampen the value as a collector car.
Yes. And that lower A/C vent may also not be (originally) on the Series I cars. Although (in addition to the grill), I'd sure like to have one - especially when the dash gets hot!
There are some really wishful thinkers out there right now. I'm a 308 GT4 cheerleader and owner, and I'd love for these cars to be worth well into six figures, but reality is the market is softening on all cars at the moment. Yet there's two currently listed for seemingly astronomical prices. First up, os this one on eBay for $95,000: https://www.ebay.com/itm/295467812415 Second is this one at some dealer in North Carolina for $225,000: https://www.classic.com/veh/1979-ferrari-dino-308-gt4-dino-22-15234-n2PvYop/ While both of these cars appear to be very nice and in great condition, and I'd be proud to own either of them, those prices are incredibly unrealistic at this moment in time. Especially when you consider the one on eBay failed to sell just two months ago on BaT. Bidding only reached $71,000 and was sold privately after the auction ended: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1975-ferrari-308-gt4-35/ Am I missing something? I mean, I have an award winning 308 GT4 with 31,500 miles, in a rare color, with an incredibly well documented history and it's appeared in two magazines. If I were to sell it right now, I'd be pretty stoked to get $75,000 for it.
I agree that sellers hope we are still in an up market. For me, it's the number of Reserve Not Met auctions that indicate we are in a down trend. During an up trend RNM is... 5% of auctions?
