I have a 355 now and love it but recently sold off a lot of toys (motorcycle boat, etc) to make room for a 348 Spyder If you plan on doing your own engine out services (which is not a big deal, at least to me) gives you full access to the engine once it’s out makes any repairs easier and I’m able to clean and check the engine bay and all the hard to reach components (fuel tank area fuel lines coolant tubing and etc) after you do your first E.O.S. The next are not as stressful But paying someone else for servicing you will need to find a really good mechanic which now a days are hard to come by I’m not a big fan of P-cars and have a few friends with them to my surprise a lot of the work on the engine are Engine Out !!! And this is newer models My only concern with buying an older f-car of this era is the electronics it’s not the same as todays and not really support by aftermarket and some will say they do not have issues but time always catches up we see on the chat forum guys are stocking up on spare parts (for a reason) Do not let that stop you from buying a great car And it is a great for its time not a “dog” To me it’s the last of the Enzo cars made and true analog (yes it has EFI but manual steering, gear box and no Electronic suspension) It’s a grown man’s go kart Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
If you’re up for a potential adventure and like yellow (I do) then an amazingly cheap spider popped up on eBay this morning. https://www.ebay.com/itm/295378308456?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=sf6hfluotfq&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=5lJOWFY0TJe&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Lol I do like yellow a lot but would really like white I have seen coups and TS never a Spyder don’t even know if one ever existed I did find a yellow Spyder at Beverly Hills car club which looks ok and might take a trip after the new year to see it before going through the whole PPI stuff The one you listed is ok but has accident history and can see a lot parts missing in the pics shown I don’t mind buying car with Mechanical issuesi do my own work so E.O.S. And rebuilding other components I fine with I do not like doing it want frame or body damage problems Some guys like that stuff I can not stand it If I had the accident and knew what need to be done and who did the work it’s ok but buying someone else head ache not for me Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Not to hijack this post but I am about to sell my 94' 348 Spider, uber rare Hyperion Azzure Metalizzato with 26K miles, car is perfect in every way. I believe only 4 painted in that color, I also owned the first one that belonged to FNA president Gian Luigi Buitoni, which recently sold on BAT. Feel free to message me for more details, I would like a private sale if possible.
Sorry, I have an impossible time keeping users straight on forums; did you recently buy the one out of the PNW with the 550 wheels?
I’m not sure what color that is I think it’s a lite blue almost silver Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Yes, but they are not 550 wheels thank god, I am putting the originals back on anyway as most prefer stock as myself. To answer the OP, the 348 is definitely not a dog. I have owned 11, and they are in my opinion one of the most durable Ferrari along with its siblings the 328 and Testarossas. I have seen so many with close to 200K miles, as long as they are serviced they will last forever, even as daily drivers. The sound alone is worth the price, really great cars, and still undervalued.
ok......now that the rumor of "dog" has been dispelled, how much should be escrowed for upkeep? my late mechanic friend once told me i spent too much on service. i did all the resto and minor work and he did all the heavy lifting, like 3yr. majors, etc. my 328 did not require engine-out services. so i wouldn't know what to expect. also i'd need to find another gumba to help me take care of her. since he and i cared for her for over 14yrs., i'm not acquainted with other mechanics in the pittsburgh area. he was probably the best!
I was cleaning out a corner of my shop the other day and came across a box of parts from when Giuseppe rebuilt my engine. It was a reminder of what a wonderful guy he was. I do miss him. I was always after as much Ferrari performance my budget would allow and he advised me to keep the 328. He told me the performance difference between my car and a 348 would not be worth the added maintenance costs. I do believe the 348's interior is vastly more comfortable than it's predecessors, especially for those of us older drivers. I'll reach out to you if I decide to part with mine. It has a lot to do with whether or not I get an allocation for a z06.
I’ve been working with Rosso outside of Baltimore to maintain my car. They’re not too too far Pittsburgh. Scott is a real pro. Happy to share my invoices with you privately. Scott is even has a shipper he works with that he very fairly priced.
here's the last picture i have of guiseppe and i. (i'm the fat boy) we were over at young frank's dealership getting a detail on gabriella. Image Unavailable, Please Login
this photo was taken by belinda. she was my late wife' s best friend. guiseppe knew them both. alas not at the same time. do we ever know when our brief visit ends here? ferraris made my life complete.
Here’s a color spider I’ve never seen before. This one is gonna bring $$$ https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1994-ferrari-348-12/
I have good shop rates down here, so your mileage may vary, but...$5500 for a major, $5500 for a clutch job, electrical troubleshoot and repair, and annual service, plus another $5,000 or so worth of annuals over ten years. Buy a car with recent service and clutch and you'll do better than that.
The 348 is a car I'd love to love. I like everything about it except: I still can not grasp the up-side-down motorized seatbelts. I know, everyone says "just manually connect & disconnect." Fine. But that kind of ruins a first date when you have to explain to her that your Ferrari has ass backwards motorized passive restraints. Joe
My 348TB has been the most reliable car that I have ever own. 1950 Ford Club Coup 1953 Chevy Bel Air 1955 Chevy 2 door 1957 Corvette 1958 Buick 1963 Split Window Corvette 1964 Pontiac GTO 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang 1966 Chevy Impala 1966 427/425 Corvette 1967 Jaguar XKE And many many more foreign and domestic Models, MG's. Austin Healey's, Studebaker, etc.. Worst Cars were American made, Cadillac Escalade which cost over 100K. The 348 engine for me is bullet proof and driving experience is second to none !!!!!
I'm thinking of trying for it…but this is BAT we’re talking about and I find it difficult to buy into the insanity. Maybe 348s are a different story from 993s…anyway, I’d love to hear more about it!
OK...... the buy-car, sell-car angst has set in. my late wife used to say i did not have a dominant side of the brain. therefore, it was difficult for me to make up my mind! i have no reason to sell the Boxster other than i miss my 328. poor decision. going thru all the decisions involved in finding another proper 328 are getting wearisome. like john kasich once said "getting out is harder than getting in"! i'll be content with my 718 porsche boxster.
718s are fantastic cars. If you crave a little more excitement and visceral connection, there are pretty simple things that you can do to increase power and feedback. I’m not down on the four cylinder like a lot of people are.
