Be it The Voice, the changing of the Constititution or First Nation Sovereignty. It all comes down to one item ....Money How much should you pay for your plot of land? Be it a lump sum say 10k /20k/50k? Or a yearly fee? 1k,5k, 10k?
Peta Credlin’s article in The Australian today should be compulsory reading for everyone whom will vote in the referendum. Unfortunately it’s probably behind a paywall. The ultimate aim is they want all non-indigenous to pay a 1% tax every year to indigenous people as a payment for being on “their“ land.
I guess I could just do this… Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
And whom will pay the taxpayer, so I'd suggest if on a pension and you own your home,no payment required? This would be typical of this far-left government
How much is a fair rent for us all to pay P/A? 5,000,7000,10,000 or 20,000? I think it will be based on income and property value with 1 million 1st nation people excluded and people on a pension excluded.
Question how would this work (theory only) A great grandfathers , father is English , mother Aboriginal not full) She is from Sydney . and child is adopted out . Not sure if she was born in Sydney The Great great -grandchildren live in and were born in Adelaide . What tribe should they identify with?
The taxpayer already pays nearly $100 million PER DAY on indigenous issues. No amount will ever be "enough".
The same sort if claims were made when the Apology was mooted in 2008... what happened when it was made? NOTHING as far as ‘reparations’ was concerned - nothing asked for, nothing given. This is just typical scaremongering.
The stupidity of this is the people who watch and read the weather on TV,will have to work out what town is what while others whom don't watch will care little .
Over one million Australians now identify as First Nation people odd they do not directly on the whole care for their people as other races do.
Gee, you're pretty naïve if you think what's happening now isn't a natural follow on from the "apology". But if you want to talk about claims that turned out to be false, how about the most basic one from the "apology"? That it would bring everyone together and draw a line under the past so we can all work towards a more united future. Would you say it has? Are we more unified as a nation now than before the "apology"? All that aside, what you fail to understand is that it's not about the money for people like me. It's about the outcomes. And the truth is, the ludicrous amount of money already spent has done nothing to improve the outcomes for indigenous people. The apology has done nothing to improve the outcomes for indigenous people. And the "voice" will do nothing to improve the outcomes for indigenous people. It will, however, create another layer of bureaucracy, make a number of dodgy people rich, and make a lot of clueless inner-city leftys feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And it will annoy the hell out of people like me while we watch the "voice" focus on the important stuff like Australia Day, the flag, the anthem etc., while I am flying around out there seeing first hand the reality of life for the real indigenous people in the bush...
The Apology actually DID change the tone of discussion for many years afterwards. The Voice is about the next step forward - direct representation and input by indigenous people for the decisions that affect their lives. FWIW, I would like to see Indigenous electorates drawn on based on traditional boundaries (and yes I know that’s a whole other can of worms) and people who identify as Indigenous can choose to vote EITHER for the Indigenous electorate OR their ordinary electorate, AND they must be full time resident of whichever electorate they vote in. They get an allocation of funds similar to how States get GST distributions, and up to them how it’s administered. RESPONSIBILITY follows recognition.
Well put . On my various trips into the bush last year,i got to see 1st hand the sad plight of the true Aboriginals of Australia, the violence, drugs, the drinking and sadness of being useless. Dubbo, Mcdonalds 16/17 girls off their faces in the carpark with babies QLD middle-aged men drunk falling over in main streets Homeless people . Emerald on the way home fighting in the streets I didn't see any inner-city lefties helping out NON. I will vote NO , have nothing against the true Aboriginals, this Voice act will just be a money-making venture for some .
