Any idea which of the McMaster foams will work for this? There seem like some good options in that link.

    Hi,
What are the dimensions of the foam block?

    Thank you.

    Cheers

    Grazie Alberto,
I went to the local home depot yesterday and they had just 30x30mm. Open cell though, but too small.

I remade mine from Armaflex insulation (HVAC product as it is a skinned CLOSED cell foam, which will not attratcted and hold water..

It comes in a wide range of thickness.

Armaflex insulation would do the job but it is too dense imho. I tried it and couldnt get it to work properly.

Time you have bought a minimum length x standard width & cut it then its possibly cheaper to buy the ones made by Superformance (£50) or dinoparts (52 euros)

I might be wrong but I think an open cell block is more appropriate. A closed cell one might eventually cause some turbulence obstructing some of the airflow.

There was not supposed to be airflow, if anything it directed more to the radiator, and not allow
    it to go beyond it.
I will check my exact dimensions, not there right now, but they are just the right size, cheap open cell foam.
I had an original, or at least I assume it was, in my car, so I just went to HD and got 2 perfect replicas.
The gray color was right too.

    Regards, Alberto

I will say for years, there was NO option for an “original type” item. And as for that, no one could identify what “Was Original”.

The only real way to know is what “was original” or not.

Can any ORIGINAL, minimal change owner post pics? These people are almost impossible to find today.

From my experience, what I have seen is just all kinds of broken down, what we would call today, “open cell” foam types. I haven't seen a “closed foam” version of an old broken down piece.

The grey / charcoal coloured foam that's fitted to my car measures 60mm x 60mm x 700mm long

From my experience we designed air guides and ducts allowing some air to "go lost" to prevent
turbulence issues, and I think imho that is the reason why the original part is an open and not a closed one, letting as much air as possible go through the radiator.

Bought at Home Depot, maybe. :)
Missing almost 2mm, so 58mm. Think will do.

That pretty much EXACTLY what the option from McCann was back in the day.

I wonder which is the most appropriate glue to use, considering the rather high temperature for most common glues used for foam parts.

By the way, did you spray the hood as well or just the foam?

    Thanks.

Both surfaces. That means you need to cover off the surrounding areas on the hood and make a test fit before you spray out the glue and mount the foam...You will only have one attempt to get it right:D

    Best, Peter
