before every drive i feel for fuel seepage. yesterday this hose was saturated with gas but not leaking. could have been a very bad day. changed it out for a nonbraided fuel hose as those last much longer.
braided hoses im told can fail within a couple yrs. given this location over the distributor im not taking any chances.

The real issue with that hose is the rubber can be in very bad condition and you cannot tell. The fabric absorbs the fuel and for quite a while it just serves to allow it to evaporate off. Given time it will start to drip. You did exactly the right thing by feeling it.

That looks like a Walter Wolf car which makes that pic even harder to look at.

Mine broke at the very same spot on the Daytona. I always open the hood before and during warmup to check. ...and carry a fire extinguisher.

So do you prefer the braided or non-braided fuel hoses?

The cloth covered hose isn't very good but I don't think it was ever very good. You can use it for the sake of originality but it needs regular inspection and much more frequent replacement.

Thanks for the response. That’s what I figured but thought I’d ask a pro to double check.

It's sad to see this particular Countach like this... if it's the Walter Wolf car.

When I owned VW air-cooled cars back in the 80's those hoses would get hard and brittle. I saved one owner at a stop light when I saw the gasoline leaking over the engine down to the ground. Once those caught fire it was over. No putting out the fire on a magnesium engine case. This crap hose was used on VWs, Porsche's, etc.

those hoses have been used since about 1955 without any problems as long as fuel have been inside. once they got dry and then again fuel they got leaking.

when they have been new it was all ok. but the fuel getting more and more chemicals inside and so the hoses have been not good anymore for this fuel. I once had a fuelhose looking outside like snow, not dropping, but when I put my finger to this "snow" it was like acid to my finger. and after pressing the hose with my fingers they suddenly started leaking

What are the opinions regarding whether the large fuel-supply hoses in the Daytona were also originally braid-covered?

Also, in the thread mentioned above, there is a comment about colored “dashes” in the braid. Anyone have any opinions about whether there were originally such dashes in either the small fuel-return braid or (if there was a braid in them) the large fuel-supply braid?

Yes, I know one should not use the Nitride hoses; I am just wondering for academic reasons...

    Good eye saves you!
    Bravo

Fuel line as clothed braided is super gorgeous as original looking but please to change this at the two year schedule minimum!
    This post is so scary!
It really is not difficult and one clever way is to replace the line starting at carbs when viseclamped off at fuel tank. work from carb backwards and always have the halon unit at hand close

crazy how that short fuel hose hit directly over a sparking distributor.
