Wondering if any Californians are planning to transport their cars to the Elkhart Lake event in early September? I'm trying to find my car a ride.

I'm still looking for 250 GT transport to the FCA event at Elkhart Lake this September. Anyone else going to the National from here?

    Just drive her. ;)

I had planned to drive my Roadster to Corning/Finger Lakes event (& then to NYC/Times Square for a photo shoot) few years ago, but a major health problem popped up and forced a cancellation of the entire trip. :(

I had considered driving the TR to Mt Tremblat 2 years ago but could not afford the time. That is typically why people truck cars to the events. We're too busy. It has little or nothing to do with the drive.

I hear you, but I often/usually plan my leisure time/vacation trips accordingly and make the journey* as much, if not more, important part as any destination/event I wish to attend.
I couldn't see myself vacationing in some beach resort or cruise ship for a week or two. With exception of occasional 2-3 night stays in L.V. (she likes playing slots in casino atmosphere, which I find annoying & boring), fortunately my wife feels same and most our leisure trips include a vintage car and interesting roads/routes/sights to enjoy/explore.

*My first and foremost interest in vintage cars has always been about driving/using them. I've always enjoyed restoring and working on them (showing, especially my own cars, not so much), but all that is secondary to pleasure I get driving them.
I've also always believed if I had an 166, TDF, SWB or 6C 1750 Z Spider, etc I would probably drive it as much, if not more than any other vintage cars I have or have had, but being they're outside of my financial reach ... :(

The question is of transport for the car from CA to Wisconsin, where it will be shown, tracked, and displayed, then fitted with OverDrive for the Drive back home.

I have been around the World 4 times on an antique Indian motorcycle, and from SF to New Bedford, Mass (further East than Boston) in 2 1/2 days, non stop in a 4X6 dually with a top speed of 80mph.

Again, the question is for transport for the car, not driving it there at this time.

I agree, getting there is 3/4 of the fun. But I will be riding another old Indian from the West of Europe, to the International Indian Rally in the Czech Republic at this time; One can't do it all.

    Cool !

Your Indian reference reminded me of one I was sitting next to when visiting friends for a little cigar outing in their garage last Saturday. It’s an unrestored 1913(?) and my friend recently became fourth generation caretaker of it as his great grandfather bought it new. We were discussing a possibility of him applying for invitation to show it at PB in its unrestored condition as it has never been “shown” ever before.

I’ve driven across U.S. in vintage cars around half a dozen times, once in 2 1/2 days with a 1960 Chrysler I bought for $200 a week earlier…

P.S. Continuing this discussion will keep your thread title on top and visible. ;)

Sounds like a great trip. I was on a motorcycle trip to the Acrtic Circle with a friend both on Harleys and we crossed paths with a guy on the Dalton Highway on a rigid frame Indian on his way back down. It had to have not been the most comfortable ride on that road but he was having a ball. Where in the Bay Area are you from? I was born in Oakland and lived in the East Bay most of my life.
