To be fair, it was not (as I read it) the complete kit needed to do the conversion. I just purchased a kit that's comprised of many OEM parts (and I opted for non OEM on certain components), this seemed about the right price for the parts which I believe were included.

This weekend I'm going to try and catch up....I’m going to summarize a few that hammered while I was traveling with the family this month.

An interesting series of cars right in a row….

Lets first cover the private individually converted 6MT CONVERSION.

So many of us followed this car when it sold in Dec ’23 and then again in June ’24.

The parts used were acquired from @ferrarilcona and his post on Fchat (RemingtonRS71 on BaT)

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/manual-conversion-parts-for-575-superamerica-599.665522/

Buyer seems like a legit guy and serial buyer at BaT…. Didn’t seem like a dealer/broker, legitimate collector/”enjoyer”. Wish he would chime in here….Love to know if the allegations of bent frame were bogus (if he had it inspected upon receipt).

    https://bringatrailer.com/member/kgtkgtkgt/

Seller in the comments for the listing noted the following on the short hold period. I came to the conclusion that a V12 Ferrari is not for me. If I keep the car, I’d modify it further: stiffer suspension (bushings, coilovers), louder exhaust (Fiammenghi’s or SS), etc. Some of these modifications would defeat the purpose of a GT cruiser, so I decided to sell the car in its stock form instead. He had the same thoughts generally as WhiteOut….

2003 575 CONVERTED 6MT SOLD at $141,500 on 6/24/24 bought by BaT Handle kgtkgtkgt
+) VIN ZFFBV55A630130640 California title (ding on CarFax), short hold period by the owner –
    +) Assembly 47838
+) 7,762 miles at time of sale, Argento Nurburgring over Nero
+) shields; Daytonas (contrasting inserts – looked sharp); red fob, red calipers, leather shelf
+) dash leather and stereo were repaired under sellers ownership.
+) from the listing: work under current ownership was said to have included performing a timing belt service and replacing the clutch master cylinder, intake manifold gaskets, camshaft cover gaskets, tensioner bearings, spark plugs, and fuel pumps.
+) The seller clearly put a LOT of care and time into the car from when he purchased it thru the conversion process.
+) Broken record but….another perfect example of a car that needed a PPI. This auction took a strange turn as one of the alleged prior owners claims they know the car fell off the 2nd level of a car transporter and was repaired without insurance proceeds and thus never hit CarFax.
+) regardless of the aforementioned alleged incident, the listing did include the following notation. April 2015 entry on the Carfax report lists “very minor damage” to the left rear corner of the car after after it hit a stationary object, and the right-rear quarter panel and bumper cover are said to have been subsequently refinished.
+) FULL DISCLOSURE – early on I reached out to the seller to try and go see the car since it was very local to me (I reached out before the allegations of bent frame) were aired out. I did NOT end up going to see the car.
+) February 2024 belt service included replacing the intake manifold gaskets, camshaft cover gaskets, tensioner bearings, spark plugs, and fuel pumps.
+) In the comments to the listing the Seller noted they lost money on the experience ($40k on the OEM parts, plus the 360Trev tune, his time invested, etc).
    +) This sale: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2003-ferrari-575m-maranello-11/#comments-anchor
+) Prior sale on BaT (12/26/23 at $106k out of Georgia with then an Ohio title): https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2003-ferrari-575m-maranello-7/

Even with the things going on with this car, I was frankly surprised to see it hammer as low as it did.

Second BaT auction I wanted to cover was a.....

NO RESERVE auction for 550 parts that were sourced from cars that were converted to race cars.

I don’t recall seeing another historic auction for just the 550 parts needed for the conversion.

575 CONVERSION parts -- Ended 6/26/24 SOLD $20,250 which to me seemed reasonable.

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/parts/

I continue to casually watch MMWX (Machina Motorwerx) as they expand their non-OEM conversion product lines and it looks like they are also integrating an interior leather shop for their business.

It sounds like after EAG that @dhalperin13 had a great experience with final tweaks on his car with the guys from MMWX.

I was the lucky buyer and will be using those parts with all the other OEM pieces I needed directly from Ferrari. I’m also having Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale do the actual conversion and fully document it for me. Whilst a little more expensive, I felt with genuine parts a conversion by them documented would be positive if i ever sell it. But I’m hoping she’s a keeper. In Blu Nart over beige interior newly refreshed by Ken Michael’s Coachworks.
I believe the car will be with Ferrari in a couple of weeks and will take them 3 weeks to complete with a full belt service. I’ll post pics for anyone who is interested

I spoke to these guys and EAG, both reputable. I just wanted Ferrari to do mine with genuine parts. The tech who’s doing it is their lead guy and has been with Ferrari for 18 years

LOVE IT! thanks for checking in and sharing with us and while there is a place for both aftermarket and OEM conversions, your approach is surely a strong if not the strongest route to retain value.

It would be amazing for you to create a new fresh thread for your car like @Aerosurfer and others have historically done….i for one would enjoy following the cars journey.

I can certainly give it a go. Can you post the link in the chat. I’m not too familiar with this app and I don’t find it overly intuitive. I’m travelling right now but when I’m back in the US I will create a journey and my experiences with this.

Welcome and congrats on the parts purchase! Lots of good discussion about our cars and gossip of others.

My thread is just a 2+ year rumination on my time so far with my 456. Some maintenance, some pictures and adventures. Despite our common interests and various successes, I think there is still an element of living vicariously through each other on some facets of the motorsport hobby

    Hi all,

So have mentioned in past that I was planning to do a conversion on my 2004 (pic below)... Well I finally bit the bullet and all parts are on the way.

Using a combination of OEM sourced from Europe and new component kit by Robin Hastings / Out of the Gate in Scotland. If all goes as planned I should be behind the wheel late September / Early October.

Will report back as things move along, very excited. I think the car will be one of a handful of converted 575's in TDF, likely even fewer in TDF over Cuoio.

Look forward to sharing in person with fellow Los Angeles drivers for a Fall get together??

    Best,

    Joel

What you need to do is get to the main area for the 456/550/575 forum then close to the top there is a horizontal red “button” that says “Post New Thread”
Then you can choose your title and start posting.

I have loved @Aerosurfer’s thread and historically have really enjoyed the thread @white out had done on his journey evolving his 575 and the contributions historically made by others like NiftyFiveFifty

Lots of amazing contributors on here. Many have long ownership and an amazing depth of knowledge like @tazandjan @Cribbj @fatbillybob @ferraridriver @Rifledriver @Qavion to name just a few of our “tenured professors”.

    Joel, I’m excited for you.

I’ve mentioned many times I feel like your 575 is on the
    “special 575 list”
and it’s only getting stronger with your conversion.

Thanks! My mechanic is Damian Forbes at FMS Socal, absolutely among the best in the US so far as I'm concerned. He's done a few conversions previously, just finished a 355 and has a 599 waiting after mine. Nobody sweats the details like Damian.

    I went through this whole auction as well to try and understand why the price was so low and this is how I felt about the car;

    1. The car had accident damage on the carfax and anyone that says the car was damaged whilst moving it is typically telling a lie. Regardless of this, the carfax was dirty.

    2. The owner did the conversion himself. This would scare me as a buyer especially understanding everything that has to be done. How do we know that he was qualified?

    3. Perhaps he didn’t do a great job and the car didn’t drive that nice hence why he was selling it.

When I was looking for a 575 manual I had the option to buy a crashed factory manual for $150k that had been fully repaired and I gave it a miss.

I think the price of this sale was on the money.

Wow, I missed that the conversion was owner-executed. I must admit, though we aren’t exactly talking aerospace-level engineering and tolerances, I wouldn’t be too keen on dropping a lot of dough for that.
