F355 Radio wiring help needed

Yes, they are all in there, so I can carefully solder them back together. I can do the same with the other side that goes to the radio as well. I didn't even know what the connector looked like so your pictures were invaluable to solving this problem. I also didn't know that there needs to be a 15a fuse in the yellow wire between the radio and the connector. I'll order one of those and splice it in. It also looks like the red wire gets a 3a fuse, but that goes to the unused connector. Confirm I'm correct?

Then all I have to figure out is what that speaker wire is and the cut yellow wire in the dash that doesn't seem to go to the radio.

What's REMOTE IN for?

 

Double check this. On my car, there is a yellow wire (presumably ACC power from the ignition switch) spliced into two red wires. One red wire goes to the unused plug, and the other red wire goes through the 3amp fuse to the Sony backplug (pin2). The unused plug doesn't seem to be fused.

 

Maybe Ray knows... I don't have anything plugged into my REMOTE IN.

 

Those yellow wires are a real rats' nest. I may have to cut some zip ties to figure out what feeds what.

 

That should be for the Sony RM-X4S "wired remote" thing. It's kinda like an after market remote that sort of mimics modern steering wheel controls.

It's important to note that the grey/red wire is live battery power (powered by fuse 4 in the frunk) and is fed to pin 1 of the Sony unit.

 

On one of the diagrams that was posted (reposted below), it showed two fuses... one 15a and one 3a. The 3a goes (I THINK) to the unused plug. Confirm?

This video shows it pretty well. That blue 3.5mm plug back there should have a slight chamfer to it I believe.

I'm using the battery shutoff switch under the hood by the CD changer. That should be sufficient, no?

There is something weird going on here. I cut the zip ties to get better access to the wiring and the wires didn't go where I thought they did.

My installation doesn't match the Sony diagrams. I have live battery power on pin 2 of the Sony plug (not Acc as shown in the Sony manual). I checked that with a multimeter. I know my radio was working some time ago and I haven't touched the wiring. The yellow wires which feed both pin 1 and 2 ultimately end up at a mysterious box with a fuseholder on it.

I can't say I've seen this box before or know what it does. Fuse 4 in the frunk feeds pin 3 of connector 59014 (7 pin plug). The wire colour changes from grey/red to yellow at the plug. The yellow wire goes to a splice. From here, it goes to:

1) Pin 2 of the Sony unit, via the 3A fuse. The splice also feeds the unused connector
2) the mystery black box with a fuseholder on it.

Sorry that the yellow wires are hard to see.

The yellow wire coming out of the mystery black box goes to pin 1 of the Sony unit. Since the black box has no other inputs, I'm not sure what is supposed to be coming out of the black box. I was unable to take a voltage reading on pin 1 of the Sony unit. It was neither live battery or accessory volts. I can't figure out how the Sony unit turns on/off.

 

Probably just finger trouble... I checked again and both pins 1 & 2 have live battery volts. The mystery box was just a low pass filter/RF choke for the power into pin 1 of the Sony unit.

I guess the unit stays on all the time (???) unless you turn it off. Or my car is wired up incorrectly.

 

I am missing that black box. Where would I find that?

Update: I did some soldering...

Need to figure out the red wire fuse and the box with fuse on the yellow wire. Then the harness should be done.

Then I can solder in the connector to the car. Then figure out what the cut yellow wires and the speaker wire is behind the dash.

If you solder/crimp the wiring on plug 59014 (7 pin) to the endcapped wiring on your car, that would have hooked the Sony unit to the speakers, but I can't even imagine what kind of speaker wiring has been removed/added to your car. There should be 4 speaker wires, so I'm not sure of the function of that single wire in your photo.

As a short term measure, you may be able to crimp the two yellow wires together until you find a replacement filter. I could find no part numbers on my filter. It looks original and the wires are properly soldered to the filter (inside the unit). I'll have to fish around in the parts manual to see if I can find it, but I guess any low pass/RF filter from an audio store can be used. My unit was sandwiched between the Window ECU and the radio, so right where your yellow wires were cut. Mine was clamped into position with a bracket screwed onto one of the dash support brackets, but I don't know if you have the equivalent on a LHD car. The clamping bracket looks like a rectangular metal P clip.

Looks like the P clip/bracket for the filter is available to order... P/N 173470, but the parts diagram doesn't show the filter itself.

The orientation of the P clip is different on RHD cars. I'm not sure what it's attached to on LHD cars. For info, the filter is not applicable to Becker radio installations.

What pin number on the Sony plug does the speaker wire with the red splice go to? It looks like it goes to either pin 1 or 2 or both. They are the DC power pins for the Sony unit, not speaker outputs.

You need at least two speaker wires for each side (LH/RH) on the standard setup... i.e. a total of 4. You can't run your car's speakers on 1 wire.

 

Do you know what kind of radio/stereo the PO fitted (or tried to fit)? I suppose the aftermarket radio may have had a different pin configuration. Even so, if the red splice in your photo is joining pins 1 & 2, that's definitely not a speaker wire.

 

When I say it's a speaker wire, I'm only defining the wire, not what it's used for. It's likely just being used as a regular power wire, but I don't know for sure. Haven't put a meter on it yet, and I can't see where it goes.

My friend who I bought the car from is going to try to locate the aftermarket unit tonight. He's positive he has it, just needs to find it. there's always a chance that the fused filter box is on that radio. Keeping fingers crossed.

As far as speaker wires go in the dash, yes, they're there and I will be soldering back in the factory connector 59014.

The other speaker wires you reference that are cut and sticking out of the dash were just spliced in by that P/O. I'll be cutting them off so I can solder 59014 back on. The one wire that confuses me is the one that runs under the dash and by the yellow wires that are cut and left hanging deep in the dash. Those yellow wires MAY have been connected and were originally one wire. It's nearly impossible to tell, but I can tell you this.... there is a small zip tie holding them together. If you look closely in the pic you can see it. Maybe someone can do what I did and slide themselves under the dash and take a look? It's right by the OBD port.
