Can anyone speculate, troubleshoot, or diagnose what could be the underlying condition to cause a top to do this? I’m all ears as to any ideas in case it happens again.

The fluid is full where it needs to be and appears to be in good condition. There are no leaks in the system either.

I had the flaps go out of sync and my right flap broke. My tech put in a new right flap and then sat and cycled the top for about an hour trying to find out what went wrong. He discovered one of the microswitches was failing intermittently. I’m now waiting for a replacement microswitch to arrive from Italy. There’s no reason to assume this is your problem, but I really hope this fixes mine.

    Maybe it’s this:

There are three hidden bolts on each side. You cannot see them when the top is up or down. However they are visible while the top is operating…. Roughly 1/2 way during the up or down movement. Make sure the bolts are not loose!!! I do not have a picture handy, but it happened to my spider.

Ok maybe it is more than 3 hinge bolts….. check all of them. :D Maybe….. if the bolts are lose on one side it could cause the mechanism to tilt a little, especially if it was not operated on even ground……. A bit of a long shot. Picture of bolts below.

Are you talking the hinge bolts for the tonneau cover or something else? Just looking at the pics it looks like the tonneau, what the top stows under.

Yes, the hinge of the painted cover the top stows under. When this happened, the little capote side covers were also not closing properly.

    Here's the guide, Andy

I can't remember which diagram I posted earlier, but the guide should help.

    Cheers
