I truly appreciate the response, Goggles-- please see this link: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/anyone-have-the-color-codes-for-radio-harness.542706/ This is where I found the connector diagram attached above in post # 624. Connector diagram 3D - 188897 EXACTLY duplicates my connector pins and wire colors. The lower , white connector is the one that is different from other 360s. My car was not re-wired or re-pinned. As I mentioned above, closer inspection of the electrical tape simply revealed several tap/splices, but no re-pinning or re-wiring. So-I can only surmise that the later 360s employed a different radio wiring connection pin config, even though the connectors are the same. My radio is the Becker BE-6104. I'll attach pics. I think I'm going to simply have to reconfigure the pins on my Red Wolf adapter--once I do that then I'm done and can move on. Anybody have any advice on how that's done? Hello all--about to attempt this install on Saturday. All the necessary parts are in hand. My question--do ALL (even base system) 360/Becker radios use an external amp (hidden in the dash?) to power the speakers? Or does the base audio system use the built-in Becker radio amp (if there even is one!)? I'm fairly certain I have the base Becker radio with only front speakers. 2003 360 Modena. My plan is to install The PowerAcoustik unit and ALSO a small Soundstream 2-channel amp (ST2.500D) This is a very slim small amp that will fit behind the radio in the dash. I would take the RCA outs from the PA into the Soundstream amp--and then from the new amp out to the OE speaker harness. I would only be using the front speakers, so only using the 2 inner pair of speaker leads in the connector. (taping off the unused speaker wire ends) If there is already an OE amp powering these speakers then I'd be sending an additional amp signal before the OE one--which I would imagine would result in bad things. The 2 radio connector harnesses exit to the right and behind the glove box. I plan on removing the glove box and having a look behind, unless someday has already been through this and can tell me, saving me the hassle! If there is an OE amp for the base system, I'd like to bypass it and use my Soundstream 2-channel. Gotta figure that out, if necessary. Any and all advice welcome. Greg Austin TX
I installed that same amp, but with 4 outputs ( I have subs in my F430) in the location of the old amp. There is plenty of space in the tray to install this. The only thing you need to figure out is the power for the amp, it needs 2 lines, one for main power and one which activates the amp from the head unit. I assume you will find them at the head unit, I doubt they used different units for the cars with and without subs. I did not butcher my wiring in my car, but I butchered the old amp which was dead. So I soldered the speaker and power wires at the amp plug (which I removed from teh amp) and used the oem factory connector coming from the head unit. If there is an amp, in the F430 or 360 is easy to spot, you remove the amp holder tray under the climate control unit, plenty of videos online. Suderia audio seems to say it is the same for both: Any other questions, feel free to pm me.
Here is the pinout I used, it is accurate: https://aldousvoice.com/2015/03/21/ferrari-360-f430-hi-fi-sound-system/
... and the music sounds much much better from the amp, then direct from the head unit, and I am on stock door speakers. I did upgrade the subs, and they can take the oomph from the amp now, I can create interior rattles if I push the bass hard
Thank you all for the timely responses. I really appreciate it. So I don’t have an amp cradle hanging below my radio/climate control/central dash area. This is why I believe I have the base audio system. If there is no amp cradle/amp hanging below the central dash, then is it safe to assume there is no amp tucked behind the glove box? This is the question I’m trying to answer. If this is the case, then my OE system was originally powered by the Becker head unit itself. Which makes my life much easier! I removed the aluminum silver radio/climate surround trim piece and have all the central components out of the dash. I can see the wire bundles, heading off to the right behind the glove box, but you’re all saying there is no amp back there. An OE amp would only appear below in the center with that optional lower hump for the hi-fi system? Thank you all, Greg
Yes, there is a procedure to remove the 360 glove box but I’d rather not if you all can confirm there will not be an OE amp behind it!
About to wire this unit for the F430 with the Red Wolf harness from Amazon, read somewhere that you need to switch the 12V ignition on lead and the 12V content on leads when using the VW harness. Is this true for this harness, or did you guys just follow the colors/labels for all leads and it works fine? Image Unavailable, Please Login
The blue wire with the white strip is your amp trigger wire. Obviously not all cars have a separate amp and not all of the factory amps need a trigger wire.
All--I'm about to dive into my 2003 360 and begin the install. A few of the challenges I'm facing that could benefit from the F-Chat braintrust: 1) My "A" socket connector only has 6 wires--2 sockets are empty. It's exactly like the one on the wiring diagram GogglesPisano provided on the previous page. diagram 3D -188897. I'll post a screenshot of the single connector-- out of those 6 wires, I've deduced that I have- pin 1: yellow/white--volume/speed- pin 2: green/red--not used pin 3: empty pin 4: white/red-12V constant pin 5: red-amp on pin 6: empty pin 7: black/orange-12V switched power pin 8: black-ground This appears to be a different config than other 360s--must be a late-model 360 arrangement? A) I have no illumination wire--is that necessary for correct Power Acoustik operation? B) Is the pin 1 volume wire left unattached to the new PA head unit? C) pin 2 green/red wire is actually unused? What is that used for on other 360s? D) pin 5 red amp-on wire; is this actually used in my application? Aren't I to use the blue amp-on wire on the small connector from the PA HU? I can only assume this pin 5 wire would have been used for an external OE amp, which I don'r believe I have-(no amp hanging from dash). In other words, all amp-on signals should originate from the Power Acoustik, correct? I have re-pinned my Red Wolf harness adapter to match socket A. 2) I'm going to run an external 2-channel Soundstream amp, and a powered sub tube to be mounted behind the passenger seat. A) do I send the amp-on signal to both amp and sub from the same blue/white amp on wire coming from the small connector on the PA head unit? B) there are 2 Sub RCA outputs on the PA--labeled SUB 1 and SUB 2. Why 2? Those have got to be identical mono sub signals, right? My powered sub has stereo RCA inputs, is it best practice to only hook up one side, or run both sub outs to the powered sub? I guess that's it for now! I know I'm barraging the thread with A LOT of questions but I'm hoping to get this install correct the first time and avoid damaging anything! See my socket "A" image below, it's the lower connector--thanks GogglesPisano! Greg Image Unavailable, Please Login
Was there a stand out radio replacement solution with touchscreen/apple carplay for the 430 Scud? Any clear winners?
I'm not aware of any other single-DIN CarPlay units other than the one discussed in this thread. I've got it in my 360--working and looking great!
It was in the very first post. Here's the link: Just came across this: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Power-Acoustik-CP-71-Apple-CarPlay-Only-6-5-Touchscreen-Car-Stereo-Single-DIN-New/5055269224 It's from this company: https://poweracoustik.com/
I thought I'd add some feedback & pics from my install. It's mostly been covered to death already, I know but one thing missing is to support the rear of the unit. Regular DIN units have a little stud on the back that locates into this bracket inside the dash: Image Unavailable, Please Login This new unit, without a CD drive, is a lot shallower. From my collection of "things that might be useful" I found an aluminium stubby aerial that is the perfect size: Image Unavailable, Please Login The supplied loom is just bare cables. I already had some DIN sockets in stock (v. cheap from aliexpress) and crimped one on: Image Unavailable, Please Login The radio works correctly with UK FM frequencies: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very cool thanks for sharing--would love a link to that shorty antenna--so it just screws into the back of the head unit with the correct thread spec? I don't recall that rear catch bracket but I guess it's in there for the original radio?
