Regarding the F1 fluid specifically, if I’m just doing the siphon/top-off method, is it ok to mix the Ravenol GHA-F with the Shell ATF that was put in there last year?

Seems the ravenol is NLA from most vendors. Makes me wonder if there’s a reason why.
Since the forum won’t let me edit my post for some reason, let me replace the Ravenol with the Petronas CS Speed 75W; compatible with the Shell ATF that’s in there from last year?
    Thanks

Shell ATF is nothing more than DEXIII atf - use mobil 1 atf

Flash, I’ve read this (and other threads) several times over the last few months. In your research, does the Petronas CS Speed offer any advantages over the M1 ATF, or vice versa?

It may be overkill, but I found this place www.lubefinder.com that repackages a lot of the Shell products in reasonable/consumer friendly quantities. It may be $20/L but the amount that I'll actually use/peace of mind against risks of mixing random stuff it was worth it for me.

The CS has less additive which are not needed here and it has a better flow rate at lower temps

Not doing any scientific analysis i would be able to say does it make a difference.. maybe if it is extremely cold when you use the car ..

If you are going to mix it ..doesn't make sense

If you were to drain the system and refill with something I probably would consider the moly product that have been used by many since CS is hard to get

This i have done research on and Mobil 1 ATF is equal to and better to the shell ATF they used .. But of course some of those things don't make a difference in this purely hydraulic system

If you have a early 360 you can use the Castrol dex/merc .. older compatibile with older seals used

Although I am sure it is a great fluid but at 55 dollars a quart not sure what if the benefits (if any) make sense

The only thing is that is "thinner" at some temps which not sure what it means in real world driving

So that was my question. I have the Petronas in my Amazon cart, but I was wondering since I’m only planning on doing the siphon/top off method for now, would there be a drawback to mixing that with the Shell ATF that’s in there from last year.

I’ve been using the Redline D4 for the past decade with no issues. If I remember correctly rifeldriver may have suggested it.

I wouldn't mix it ..you are overthinking it ..go for the Castrol or Mobil 1 ATF sync ..no benefit from.mixing ..in fact may hurt

Meaning that the M1 ATF is able to mix sadly with the Shell ATF in there? Or are you suggesting a full flush and start fresh with one of those?
And yes, unfortunately, I overthink everything.

Is D4 still the go too. Interesting why scud is recommending the liquid molly hydraulic oil.

Unless you planning to completing flush it and red stuff is in it just go with Mobil 1 ATF Dex III not VI

I heard others using D4 but I haven't used it or recommended to anyone ..not saying anything good or bad but never did enough research on it

Did we ever figure out what happened to the Ravenol? I still have some on the shelf, not sure if I should use it at the next change or not...

What Dominick said. I use it exclusively now and get it from Blauparts.

I wouldn't mix fluids, unless it was emergency. Even then, I'd flush and replace with the proper fluid at earliest chance. As temperamental as gearbox's have become, it's just not worth the risk. But then, what do I know...

If the fluid in there is red the F1 reservoir then you're not really mixing anything and mixing ATF fluid with ATF fluid and in the gear oil you're going to be changing it anyway

So I'm not sure I follow

There was the old ravenol gh-f which I bought years ago and stored on a shelf...it was supposedly for the F1 replacement but I don't see it being made (or sold?) anymore...

Just because 2 fluids are red, that doesn't mean they're going to offer optimum performance when mixed. Will they work? Likely. Will they offer optimum performance? Maybe, maybe not.
Hope this clarifies. (Retired tribologist, here.)
