They don't make the M coupe anymore. These days you could get a 2001 for about 30-32k with 100k warr. I personally much rather drive a 2001 M coupe then a new WRX. Stock numbers might be about the same but the quality of the BMW is far far better.

Anyways the 360 should have beaten that WRX. Besise if you drive the damm thing right even if the WRX was modded how do you get passed in the canyons.

Hey, those are some nice looking S2000's in your profile. But my advice is that you should look at the EVO and the STi before making your final decision as they are all around the same price. Just my opinion. Hopefully you'll pick the EVO over the STi as I have haha.

Even though the guy who started this thread was without doubt a troll (saw the same post at **************** not long ago) - I'd like to put in my two cents:

I'm seriously considering getting a mid 90's modded evo 4 (300hp+) or a 79-81 911sc (240hp). The evo is leagues faster than the 911 - would handle better on most roads - and is more practical. But guess which one I'm going to choose?

Hint: It isn't going to be the one that you see 5 of every day. :)

Also - roadracing really comes down to the training and hero-status of the drivers. A sti is a very confidence inspiring car (4wd / light / good traction) - and is a whole lot cheaper to get replaced than a 150k F360. I'd be much happier to thrash an evo4 than a 911sc - because no-one would care much if I annihilated the evo4 - but I'd feel sick for tearing a 911 in half. When I had my mr2 turbo I used to race my friend in a 250cc racebike through the bays in Wellington, New Zealand. His bike was seriously quick and he was a decent driver - but some dedication and a bad mood would have the mr2 pulling away every time.

Just like a race down the side of the airport in a 70kp/h area. He ran outta go at 140 - I nailed past him at 180+. It doesn't make his bike and less than my car - just means I felt like being dumb that day.

Finally - if you want to compare apples with apples - compare an aerotop supra with GS interior and a souped up RZ 6 speed + gearbox. That's still no-where near the luxury, looks or feel of a f360 - but it's closer. The STI is a hard-topped 4 door sedan that goes quick.

The 360 is tiny - brutal and amazing.

The evo even handles much better than the m coupe. The evo and sti are almost the same car in terms of performance and price.

If you call a measly 15 hp a kick in the pants, try an extra 150hp with the same amount of money on an evo or sti.

Exhaust is NOT part of the stage 3 dinan package. I had a Dinan stage 2 myself, with exhaust, Rogue Engineering Pulleys and Lightweight fkywheel.

It is in no way a comparison to the performance and potential of an STi much less an evo.

Hello there.. I saw this posted on a Nissan board.. I am a tuner and enthusiast, and own a performance shop that specialized in Nissan 300zxTT's, 240sx', Sentra's, and other popular Nissan models.

I enjoy seeing Ferrari's... There's a Ferrari "Track Day" every month at our local dragstrip.. Where Ferrari members come and meet up.. They drive thier cars on the road course, hang out, and have a good time. It's exciting to see Enzo's, 355's and some of the older models humming around the track. The sounds they put out are awesome! So, I do appreciate the Legend..

What realy bothers me about this thread... is that you see people putting down other people because they don't own Ferrari's. "I wouldn't even race them... They are not worthy".. That kind of stuff.. I mean, come on.. Aren't we all enthusiasts here? Why do you feel the need to put yourself above other people? I drive a 2001 Nissan Sentra... Cost me 17K, and about 10K worth of modifications to get it to where I wanted it.. 2600 lb's with 450whp.. It'll walk all over just about anything on the road. You don't see me putting down others because I can beat them. I appreciate ANYONE who's got the drive to own, or moddify a car... no matter what make or model. I thought that's what owning a legendary supercar would be all about.. I guess it's not. I hate it when people put themselves above others.. because they have money.. or a nice car. You are human bieng.. just like every other person on this planet. To flaunt your furtune (that God has granted you in life).. is wrong. This probably won't matter to those who made the comments.. and that's cool.. I just wanted to say how I felt..

As far as the STi.. It's a great car for the money. There are tons of little features that will impress you. AWD, big HP, adjustable HID's, electronic TQ distribution, expensive racing seats, Brembo's... the list goes on and on. Unfortunately, I can't afford one.. so I'll just keep my little 4 door econo-box. :)

Had the same happen to me on the track. I thought I was dreaming.

But then he was probably driving 100% while I can only drive 10% of the Challenge car's capability :)

I think some of the reasons SOME Ferrari owners don't street race are as follows:

1.Most are older and have figured out that street racing is rather dangerous. I am sure most of them would have no problem duking it out with other cars on the track.

    2. Some may feel that street light racing puts unneccesary amounts of stress on expensive parts to replace. Therefore not justifiable in a cost/benefit ratio

    3. Imagine if you were driving a Ferrari. There would be multiple time PER DAY that people would try to race you. It gets old REALLY fast! I know when I had my dime a dozen C5 Vette I would get annoyed at all of the people wanting to race me. I can't imagine how much worse it is in a Ferrari.

So just keep these thoughts in mind before you get quick to think that people here are being conceited. I think you will find that most everyone here is a true enthusiast who love to share their cars with other enthusiasts like you and me.

Does that make sense at all?

That's understandable... I don't street race either. I've lost too many friends to that. And believe me, I have the utmost respect for Ferrari. It just got to me a little when I saw a few people making comments. Personally.. I wouldn't own a Ferrari. Louisiana roads aren't very kind to sports cars. ;)

Try New York City roads. Potholes the size of craters at every corner. All the dodging makes you feel like you're driving a slalom course.

It's a shame you think that way. The $27K you spent on the Sentra would get you into a 308. And Louisiana is home to one of the greatest Ferrari gatherings in the States. Perhaps you should wander by the next event

  12. i like/appreciate alot of different cars but a Subaru will NEVER score you a hot chick the way a Ferrari can...but you guys already know that...so why fret that you were beat?

ROADS!!! Oh man, you are in Houma right? I am right up the road from you. Try driving around Uptown New Orleans and see if you can navigate the craters. I have friends bust tires and crack rims all of the time over here.

After awhile you learn how to navigate around without too much trouble. But the amount of poor streets is really unreal...

I agree 110%. The PIMP factor is all over the 360. I'm just amazed how far these little Japanese cars have come. Also, I just got my Road&Track and saw a two page spread with the STI as "Best Car 2004."

I raced a WRX from Portland to Salem the other day on I-5 he never really got that close to me but I think he was trying. He had a little trouble staying at 140 MPH for any lenght of time. I was blowing a little smoke so had to slow down and let him catch up.

I dont think he had v or z rated tires either so any guy in a sub trying to go 140 all day long is crazy. I would love to have a chance to see how long I can hold my 78 GTS to 140!

Backtracking a little bit I want to get back on the M coupe/Sti/evo topic. First of all choosing between the three is simple. People who prefer fast driving, brand recognition, and prestige (I call these people 'badge buyers' because they normally pay premiums for an upmarket brand name) will drive the M coupe. Those preferring raw performance with little care to brand name, and want pure speed adrenaline rush will choose the Evo, the STi is somewhere inbetween but closer to the Evo.
An S52 or S54 US spec motor both make 240bhp at the flywheel. around 270-280 maxes out stock fuel injectors, and even with forged con rods and crank these motors hate boost. An S52 cuts its lifetime in half or less with boost. I had a '95 M3 Dyno at about 225 rwhp with Dinan 'stage III mods' (which would yield more than on the S54 motor due to the leniant OBDI emissions) so thats about 260 odd hp.

The newer 315bhp motor (forget designation) make 250-265 rwhp. But M coupres have E30 (IE OLD) rear suspension components, and are noted for awful build quality.

Evo's and STi's on the other hand can absolutely blitz M coupe's and M3's alike with next to zero mods. With 271bhp stock, a simple turbo back exhaust and upgraded chip (from Vishnu I believe) have yielded over 300bhp. Thats a big upgrade for under $2,000. And unlike M motors, Evo's motors are designed to take boost. And therefore thats how we can see up to 550bhp monsters track racing. That is all.

But different cars for different people. You can go to a funeral in an M, whereas an Evo or Ferrari would look inappropriate. You can be part of history with M and Ferrari, or you can make history with an Evo or STi. It all depends on what you want. But the performance edge these $100's cars had is all but vanished when I can get a 4 door Evo with 400bhp for $45k.

about two years ago i had posted a thread where i had gotten spanked by a hugely hot rodded integra. turbo, nitrous, h2o injected, roll cage....other. it was my first exposure to the sub compact hot rods. since then i no longer take a chance on racing them in my boxer (not even from a good roll), but make no mistake about it...they want to race all the time...all the time!!

i got so tired of getting harrassesd by these sub compact hot rods last year that i decided to retaliate. 930 turbo and $15k in engine mods and its all over! i am now the guy hunting the sub compacts! they may be used to beating ferraris but the porsches they are wary of.

at least untill utec comes out. :)

and, at least where i live, the STi gets more looks than the 360 or the rassi...
what % of the looks are scowl based...? not sure.. it's hard to count when my face hurts from smiling too much..

You could almost afford an STi or definately an EVO if you kept the 17k + the 10k worth of modification but it's cool.....as long as you like what you drive haha.

MIT: I won't take issue with your technical analysis, but i do disagree with the proposition: You can go to a funeral in an M, whereas an Evo or Ferrari would look inappropriate.

When my law partner's wife died after a long illness, and taught all of us what it meant to live life with courage and dignity (as well as a sense of humor), i thought it only appropriate to drive to her burial in a black barchetta. To me, it represented what she believed, which was to do what you can, now, that's right and noble, and forget the bull****. Life is truly too short. (BTW, i currently own a WRX in addition to an M, in addition to at least one over the top sportscar at any given time, in this case a GT-2). When i go, i'll be pissed if my friends don't show up in their favorite rides.
