Gentlemen, I'm extending the invitation to fchatters intersted in a drive through historic goldrush country. It will be a day drive through winding roads, hairpin turns and some fast straights. Drivers attending and their sports cars will be composed of non-fcars as well including myself. The meeting point will be in Folsom and go through Amador, El Dorado and Placer counties and return back to Folsom. I will post finalized meet details here in the following week. Again, its an open invite to our members, if you attend, great, if not, then you will receive the furthest parking at Concorso this August. If you have questions, email me, or post! Best, - Gabe
Gabe, Sounds like fun. I'd be in but I'm out of town that weekend. Can't wait to see the pics. Vincent.
Gabe- sounds great! So far I am clear that weekend. Any more detailed info, iteniary, maps, times etc?
Gabe, when you guys get done. I'd appreciate a copy of the map. I used to live in Sacatomato, and I'm planning on doing some rambling this Summer. So any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thx, DrTax
Thank you everyone! Tax, Absolutely, I will provide detailed maps and routes shortly. I need to lock down the meet location and time for ease of parking and the ability to get rolling smoothly once everyone is ready. The route will consists of scenic drives through Highway 49 and roads off 49, small town such as Placerville, Plymouth, Pleasant Valley, Sly Park, Coloma, Sutter's Gold Discovery site, Auburn Here's a tentative: 9:00 AM - meet/pictures/get to know your enthusiasts, etc 9:30 AM - Head out Driving time, stops if any Noonish or so - Lunch, more pictures (I'll will plan to select a location that has an assortment of food selections, from the traditional greasy burger to healthy selections) 1:00 PM Second phase of drive ending up in Folsom ending around 2-3 Open to an evening place to park, let the cars cool down, take pictures again, sip a drink! Note: Bring a Motarola Talk-A-Bout walkie-talkie or one of those FMS radios, mountains have flakey cellular service. These will ensure communication with anyone. I will be posting again shortly! - Gabe
I just heard about this site from gabe and love it allready. even though I am a mitsu man throgh and through. you have to love a butifull car like the Ferrari. I hope to klearn as much as i can about the car and can't wait to see some up close on the drive. Oh i am also helping Gabe set this thing up.
Gabe...Since FChatter's may be driving from the Bay Area, how about starting the ride at Hwy 99 & 4 East? I live in Sonora, which would be a great place to end up. We could all have dinner at my GF's restaurant in downtown Sonora and hit the casino afterwards. I should have my car outa jail by 5/1. That would be a fun drive. A putz to Yosemite on Sunday would be a great ride on Sunday for those that would like to stay overnight in Sonora. My driveway could hold about 15 cars and is secure.
Peter, Email me what you have in mind, [email protected] and we could put the two ideas together. It's not to late to enhance the route! EDIT: I forgot, I still have your email Peter, I'll send you my preliminaries. - Gabe
Gabe...I guess I listed all of my suggestions on the post. As for my car, it's in the final process of an end-to-end. I should have it in 8-10 days (It will be a real hot rod!). If any members are interested in staying overnight in Sonora, I'll play 'shuttle driver' to the hotel from my house where cars can be parked.
SATURDAY May 1st, 2004 at 9:00 AM The Sacramento crew and nearby friends will gather here at Bella Brue Cafe in El Dorado Hills, just past Folsom. From Sacramento take 50 East and get off at the El Dorado Hills exit loop. At the second light turn right and the cafe is around the bend at the first stop sign to the right. we will leave at 9:30 AM We're going south where we will arrive in Sonoma around lunchtime where we will terrorize Peter and the town of Sonoma (j/k) Have your Motarola Talk-a-bouts handy for some areas will not have cell service. Day two on Sunday for those staying overnight will continue the fun. Hope to see you there! - Gabe (do the LA guys get to have all the fun? )
To echo Dale's earlier request, we'd love to see your preliminaries as well as the final plans. We plan to do a lot of driving around CA in our Ferraris during August... and would love to glean from your expertise. I plan to develop numerous route ideas for August and I'll post them for feedback over the summer. But would love some starters to work from!! Thanks!
Hi Brian, Shoot me an email, I'll send you my routes info, your email tab on fchat is out of order. - Gabe PUSHED OUT TO SATURDAY MAY 8th TYPO NOTE to my finalized instructions.. It's the town of Sonora... NOT Sonoma! Big Difference.
For the evening of the Saturday, we will meet at The Sonora Inn for a wonderful dinner. Those staying overnight till Sunday, Peter has set asside some rooms at the Best Western Inn on Highway 108, which go for $104 + tax a night. Overnight parking is available at Peter's house or at the Hotel. Peter has advised that a security guard can be hired to watch over the cars. Anyone wanting to go to the casino, a bus can be arranged. Sunday, a drive to Yosemite will conclude the day.
I booked 13 rooms, queen doubles. If we need more, we should jump on them. The total with tax is $123.12. As for dinner, it's a fluke that Melodie does not have a party booked that evening (She is the priemer caterer in the county). She will do a grand dinner for $35 a head, five courses. If we want a bar, she will need a ten day notice to get her off-sale permit. Her new restaurant is at the Sonora Inn, downtown Sonora. We will have the banquet room. GABE: Since the rooms are on my AMX and Melodie will need to plan the food, we should do this FCFS for $158.12 to you or my PO box. For those that may cancel within 48 hours, the $123.12 can be refunded, but Melodie should keep the $35. She will be buying the food 10-12 days prior and is doing the job at cost. thats fair.
With Sunday the 9th being Mothers Day, is this a problem for the masses? It would be great to see a good turnout for this drive. Having 10-15 cars (12-30 people) would make it an awesome event!
I was hoping we'd pull in at least that many. With the regular drives we've been able to get ~10 cars, perhaps we can double that? --Dan
Sorry Art, Your birthday is not until October...It was a different member's birthday I was thinking of...(Guys, take your presents back to Ferrari of SF!)
You think I'd be silly enough to get into a kart with you on track? You'll lap me as many times as you are older than I am! --Dan
Dan: Ask Vincent, I'll take the time and give you a pointer or two on the art of scaring the crap out of yourself. These are a hoot. I'd start with the 100 1st, then when you think you know what your doing, try the shifter. 360 by the end of the month. Art
