Speed racer is on Speed Channel right now !
Great, instead of showing Classic F1, Rally, IMSA, Indy car races thier becoming like Cartoon Network now. I thought Speed Channel & TNT network were one in the same, it gets confusing with all the NASCAR shows. All need to do to dumb it down more is add wrestling.
My aunt ran a company called the child Safety Network, I worked with Mark Toll at the Long Beach Grand Prix a few time as security for the REAL MACH 5. The Safety Network made some to raise funds for the cause. http://www.speedracer.la/
I saw that car (or one of them) at the auto show. When the woman at the display told me it went 250 mph, I knew I wasn't going to learn anything useful about it from her. I was a little disappointed to see a real-life version, especially knowing now that it costs $150K!! For starters, it's too shiny. The Mach V was never shiny in cartoons. On a bright note, I did pick up the collector's DVD of Speed Racer the other day.
haha well the prototype was a 427, on a custom boxframe chasis. Mark is quite skilled. The license holders told them to make it all glossy. Designwise, cartioonists are not engineers, so it is hard to be exact. It was a kick at Me's Diner on Sunset Blvd though.
I figured the builders were up to the task. It was the aerodynamic limits that made me question her numbers. But as a child raised on Speed, Trixie, Spridel, Chim-Chim, Sparky and Pops, I felt the need to be picky about my beloved Mach V.
on the ptototype that was at the car shows, Mark put two chromed circular saw blades on a rig under the car.
Tim, do you know if they've ever tried brushed rims on their Mach 5? I wonder how that would look. I looked at the pictures again, and I think that was what disagreed with me the most.
Still laid up with flu, I popped in my SR DVD, and it was funny to remember names, etc: Villains: Mr. Wiley Tongue Blaggard Captain Terror Mr. Van Ruffle Mr. Fixer Ace Ducey Litefingers Klepto, shot by Sureshot Sluggo Drivers: Zoomer Slick Skull Duggery Snake Oiler Fireball Rust (the driving instructor) Happy Doodle (Speed's alias) Trivia: Steering Wheel Buttons-- A--Jacks B--Tire Treads (5000 hp at each wheel!) C--Circular Saws D--Bullet-Proof Cockpit Cover E--Special Red Headlights F--Underwater Oxygen and Periscope G--Homing Pigeon The engine design that Pops sketched onto the windshield in invisible called for a power plant capable of a whopping 30,000 RPM! The Mammoth Car was over 200 yards long, made out of gold (of course), produced 30K hp and was capable of speeds over 400 mph on any roads. Corinne Orr, the voice of Trixie, Mom Racer and Spritel, was best known as the voice of "Snuggle the Bear".
sadly, i never really enjoyed the show, although friends refer to my assistant as chim-chim (the monkey?) i did take notice when the car would attract girls while we were on the road at car shows, unfortunately they were the drunken rowdy type.
Thats not a bad idea, I'm really getting sick of my nieces & nephew watching The Wiggles & Barney. I'll get the DVD ASAP for them!
Let us not forget Zaboomafoo, VeggieTales, Dot, Clifford... Something about Captain Feathersword on the Wiggles... Hmm... My baby cousing refuses to let me 'go work on the car' when any of her shows are on. I have to chaperone her TV watching experience.
